One of the more fun radio remotes I've done... live from atop a spinning Ferris Wheel at the Williamson County (Illinois) Fair in summer 2010 on Monster Radio AM 1150 WGGH.
I had a wireless mic in one hand, wireless mic in the other and told the ride operator what I was up to. Someone was with me and snapped this pic.
That's our booth and equipment trailer down below. A wireless mic receiver sat in the DJ booth next to the trailer and right next to the wireless mic receiver was the marti, whos antenna is on the tripod on the trailer.
The station was only a mile away so it was an easy, clear shot.... I head headphones on with a walkman tuned to 1150 AM and a sheet of my break times with the song before and after. We didn't have a board op. We'd test the Marti before we left, leave the pot up on the board. .but the wireless mic was always turned off.
We had a voiceover intro "The Monster Radio road crew live on location" with a music bed under it that was exactly 60 seconds...... turn on the mic as soon as that starts, hit start on the stop watch as soon as i start talking...... at 55 seconds, theres a loud and obvious, but not over powering double car horn honk.... wrap it up and get out of there.
It worked so wel land sounded so smoothly on air when we did remotes, we had competitors with much bigger stations and better equipment asking how we did it and were shocked when we told them how simple it was!
