Congratulations To WAAF MD Mistress Carrie!

Only unemployable if Rich Carbery is the alleged employer. That's because Rich usually gets stuck in the doorway and no one can get in to fill out the forms! He used to be the BIG man at WRKO - Virgin Boy and Scotto were often dwarfed by him.

By the way Rich/Ron, it's validity, valdty is the new WAAF Music Director once Mistress Carrie takes over for both Sirius and XM. She has the new hope of reeeedio, terror-restrial and satellite!

I'll get back to the thread in the third paragraph.

Towerbuzz, a colleague of mine (with lots of credibility) wrote a private e mail showing the similarities between
Brooklyndon and yourself. I forwarded it to the Moderator. That being said "everyone else" is the type of sweeping generalization that takes the air out of your criticisms.

However you are wrong about Tracy Bonham in regards to her sales. She is signed to Rounder now,
and put together a brilliant album in 2000 "Down Here". It might not have sold Sgt. Pepper numbers,
but great work shouldn't need huge sales to justify its existence - or value. She gets decent enough
sales from her fan base. Go check Soundscan if you have access to it. Again, you generalize that you speak for "everyone" on this board, and you lash out at Tracy Bonham's sales or - in your opinion, lack of a fan base.

That being said - you don't like Mistress Carrie on the air, some people love Tracy Bonham's work. Mistress Carrie has the backing of Entercom. She is probably a great employee, doesn't rock the boat, and is exactly what Coporate America desires in 2006/2007. Trouble is, those who fall in line were never the innovators,
the movers and shakers. It is always the people outside of the mainstream that start the trends and pave the way. Do you think Mary Baker Eddy was popular in her time? Mark Twain savaged her - and he would often use his real name - not hide behind an internet handle of the time. Looking at Mrs. Eddy the individual, not the religious leader, she was one of the first Feminists, a woman in a man's world who shook the rafters in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

That's the kind of sparkle I want to hear on radio today - a woman or a man going out and finding a great British band like Veldt, or a superior Boston band like "Last Man Standing". Maybe LMS lost the BCN Rumble, but they have a record that is enormously powerful. Like Tracy Bonham, it has not received the support it deserves. You are right about Tracy, she's a sweetie. Backstage at a Lou Reed show I said to my girlfriend "Have you met John Bonham's daughter?" She replied "Tracy...I knew your dad!" Tracy went along with my little joke. Said girlfriend then goes up to Lou and says "Do you still have your dogs, The Count & The Duke" (named after Count Basie & Duke Ellington, of course. You don't think he named them after David "Thin White Duke" Bowie and....nahhh....he wouldn't name his doggies after two of his loyal fans...)...Lou smiled and said "Yes" although those doggies lived in the 1980s so...if they were still breathing it would've been an amazing feat...

Ahhh...Mistress Carrie...God Bless her...but I'd like to see these individuals get awards without the Entercom and Clear Channel associations - y'know, show up on a 50,000 watt suburban station and shake some action.

I didnt say i dont like her music I said she is not an artist that has broken in any huge way <you can see that by sales and the fact that she doesnt get airplay thats like the definition of it as far as i know> and people dont care or know her outside of Boston but anybody who thinks she's selling more records on rounder than she did on island isnt clear on reality. I cant follow your thoughts Your posts are always all over the road. Mark Twain? I dont see how you connect Mark Twain in a conversation about Tracy Bonham its illogical. But while you forward things to the moderator why not try to just get along with the professionals here instead of crying about who you think Brooklyndon is and ratting to the moderator. You keep saying radio is just a hobby when anyone questions your radio credentials but you pretend that you know all and have done everything before everyone else. Just in this thread you tried to take away Mistress Carrie's accomplishment of discovering Sully Erna. Learn to share the spotlight since you are not even a Boston radio professional to begin with.

Christ..can't we just applaud someone like Mistress Carrie instead of disecting what station has this share of this...and all that crap....a hi-five is in order

and speaking of R&R...hey--we're up for station of the year (of course not boston market, but who the heck cares!)

I dont think the story has anything to do with the topic or the thread. Not everyone who points up flaws in your arguments doesnt comprehend your argument.

That is what I said too. I agree with you the jealousy is pointless. Be happy for someone who was acknowledged.

I'll be very happy for Carmelita when she gets her lifetime achievement from the Boston Music Awards.
She's an Entercom employee, she's worked diligently for years only to have Entercom take an hour away from her. There was enough community outrage - including my vote on the petition - that she got her hour back and maintains 120 minutes on WAAF a week.

That's taking on the system and winning. That deserves praise.

But as for illegitimate industry back slapping, this is not the place for Entercom employees to advertise their achievements.

Interesting how hypocritical Neanderpaul is. He denigrates a legitimate resume, yet tries to slip in that "his" station got an award and somehow, it is "his" award (at least when I asked if he was going to get one he claimed the station's as his own). Kind of like Bill O'Reilly claiming he got an Emmy or two ... Republicans and Entercom Employees - are we seeing the connection here?

I politely disagree with you. I dont think it had anything to do with Entercom owning both stations remember he was let go from WAAF he doesnt owe them any publicity anymore. It's doubtful that he was somehow forced by a corporate mandate to post kindly about a company mate. Big corporations dont work like that. Half the time the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Paul Marshall was kind and congratulated someone he knows. Would your argument be the same if somebody from Clear Channel won? or WFNX?. Varulven you see conspiracy everywhere, that does not make it true.

Perhaps. Both appear to be largely leaders, and successful in their respective businesses. And the target of those who envy them.

It's so true, Neanderpaul - Casablance and I were doing this long before any of you and the jealousy people have for we pioneers is SO obvious. The Bill O'Reilly types always ...well, fall flat on their face.

Keep in mind - true success is doing what one loves. I'll be up till 6 AM finishing book and record reviews - a routine I've kept since 1969 when I first started writing. It's what I love to do. (I've probably been writing as long as you've been on the planet. Are you 37?)

You made it clear on this board you wanted to be successful in Boston. You are in Kansas. So you went from a small fish in a big pond to a small fish in a small pond. If that's how you define success - complaining on this very board how you were treated by WAAF - incredulous they would let you go; upset that WBCN wouldn't hire you full time, thinking about giving up...if that's how you define "success" - it seems a bit skewed to logical minds.

In any event - let's applaud Mistress Carrie and the Kansas Station and all those Entercom stations that were awarded at the Radio & Records conference! Congratulations, take your bow.

Now that Iraq is liberated and Mistress Carrie has completed her world tour, will Sirius pick up the WAAF feed in a reverse of the Opie & Anthony situation? Satellite picking up Terrestrial Radio. You can't get any bigger than R & R - they must be knocking down the AAF doors to hire her away.

Reading this thread, it shows once again Vig's lack of respect for any one's work or accomplishments except his own. Joe again RESPECT OTHERS and others will RESPECT you and your accomplishments. Somewhere in this thread, Joe actually says and I'm paraphrasing something to the effect of , If the award came from FMQB or HITS it would mean something.

Joe, this shows how out of touch you are with Radio and the Business of Radio, both those "Trade" Magazines are run by INDEPENDENT PROMOTERS, and are kept in business by labels and management companies based on the Trade's relationships with various radio people. Hardly unbiased in my opinion. I'm not saying they are bad people but don't throw out those two trade magazines as UNBIASED judges of people's work ethic and accomplishments in the business.

Again, Joe you didn't answer my questions from a few weeks back, and this thread shows me why. Your lack of respect for others is really appalling and leaves you with no authority to criticize others.

Congratulations Mistress Carrie (I don't even know you) but for the industry to acknowledge your respect for the job they do shows they respect the job you do. That's all the award is about. Respect for others, and the Respect will come to you.

The industry is much too tight. If FMQB or HITS or TALKERS MAGAZINE gave the award it might have a little more merit. These BIG corporations like VNU Media, Entercom, Clear Channel - they make the decisions.
Like George W. Bush said he's "the Decider." If he wants to decide, well, it's a free country last I heard.
We don't have to accept the "decision". And we certainly should be able to discuss it without being called "El Diablo", thank you Mr. Chavez (and thank you for calling Bush El Diablo, Mr. Chavez. We do appreciate it!)

Here is the actually qoute, as I know Joe enjoys saying I and others are "Swift Boating" and make things up. Just the facts, Joe, just the facts.

I have plenty of respect for people who accomplish great things. Little Walter's taping of Hendrix was visionary, but his gold album for resurrecting Doo Wop is truly an achievement.

"King Of Zing", another ghost with no name and NO credibility. Amazing how Entercom always has these "spies" defending their bad programming. RKO is a BORE. WAAF is a BORE. Hand yourself all the "awards" you want.
Paul Marshall was a BORE in this city. He got booted out the door.

There's GREAT talent out there - it just ain't on WAAF and WRKO. This self-congratulatory e mail thread from
the Entercom Press Office is fooling no one. Bush is out there trying novel things to drive his ratings up too.
Maybe he should start acting like a president instead of a moron and maybe Entercom should start programming radio instead of these commercials with a little bit of content in between. A legitimate gripe - but they won't even let people on the air without screening - so we're supposed to believe these contrived "awards".

Complain about my access show all you want. It's not what we're talking about -we're talking about an awards show that is about as credible as Diebold.

By the way, my guest this week is Brad Meltzer, author of THE BOOK OF FATE - the #1 book on the
NY Times Bestseller list this coming Sunday and author of Justice League Of America DC Comic. It's a great
interview - very pleased with it - and a lot more entertaining (and informative) than some ditzy blonde named Kerry Healy on THE HOWIE CARR SHOW. Hey - if WRKO is going to put partisan dingbats on the air, and not allow independent thought in an allegedly free country, well, Thank God for public access.

He sucked. He was horrible. He worked at four Boston stations. Began his career in a top ten market. But, just couldn't hack it. He only cashed those paychecks out of fear of continued failure. He especially hated cashing the occasional bonus check. He also was smart enough to turn down a job offer from the alleged music journalist in 1991, after checking references on the person who hired him. Yes scribe, you thought I was so horrible 15 years ago, after hearing my demo, looking at my resume', and checking my references you gave me a gig. You then popped a testicular nodule when I had the audacity to decline your offer. I'm sure with that vivid memory, you can pull these little details out of that dome of yours. While you were trying to set up a national network out of a tiny little station in (if memory recalls Marlborough), I was producing morning drivetime at WZLX.
You then called my home in Winchester on the night I was to start, knowing that I'd already passed on the gig a week earlier. You said I'd "never work in this business." I don't believe I've ever pulled this nugget out on this board before, but it's time people hear why you are so angry toward me. While I've left that part of my early career in the waste basket, you continue to type bitter, slanderous "facts", and all-out lies with regard to my career like a jilted prom date. You have no problem dredging up old experiences. So, chew on that one. Come to think of it, I never properly thanked my former co-worker for the reference. Thanks for the memories. And thanks for continuing to obsess over a former Boston air personality who never made any impact. Your continued focus upon my career is right in line with the other obscure topics you continue to mine in this forum. If your words are to be believed, I should be honored. This is better than any award I could ever receive. Because hopefully, after your vitriolic posts are proven to be continuously inaccurate, uninformed, and fantastically incorrect, it entertains the readers of this forum. And that appears to be your true motive. You want people to read your debates with others' in hopes that they will somehow come around and think you're talented. We're all still hoping scribe. Keep tapping away. Someday, perhaps you'll get your facts straight.

Way to go CARRIE!!! Sorry this post wasn't about you and your hard-earned, well-deserved, and industry-wide award.

Here, here, congratulations to a local person getting recognized for her hard work and love for the format.

Whoa...Heavy thread.
Paul..you rock...KQRC rocks!

Your neighbor up north in Lincoln NE /KRKR.

Duff

You doing my old PD's gig (Don Jantzen) ... ;D cool

The next governor of Massachusetts is less important than a comic book author.

You must have eaten a lot of acid back in the day.

Howie has 265,000 listeners per quarter hour, you have 113 shut-ins.

Howie makes 800K a year, you make nothing.

What a pitiful self-parody, what inane foolishness.

A tiny little station in Marlborough! Paul - you are losing it. Too many lies and too much hatred.

I remember a very cool time at WZLX. There was that morning d.j. who sent out a hello to me and my significant other thinking the significant other was a chick! We awoke one morning to a big hello from the
WZLX morning guy. I didn't know how to say it ..."Ah...my friend appreciated the hello but...you got the gender wrong!" now that was funny.

Didn't know of any "Paul Marshall" at WZLX and we were always kind to interns. A "little station in Marlborough" that was run by moi? Who is the delusional one! wow. "Angry towards you", I don't even know you and would never have heard of you if you hadn't trolled onto this board. The truth is Hillman and Opie & Anthony were the only names I recognized (or cared to listen to) on WAAF. Your ego is really a thing to behold. If you didn't start posting here many on this board might not know who the "Radio Genius" is. The only anger we see evident is someone who wished he could stay in Boston but got shown the door. This is not my fault nor my problem. There are lots of radio stations here, in Vermont, in New Hampshire - you certainly could've found something acceptable in this region if you were the talent you believe you are.

IF I had a station in Marlborough, which I did not, nor did I work in ANY radio during the WZLX days (I've never worked at WZLX, though Jimmy Mack took me to lunch to ask if they could raid my extensive record collection. I, of course, said yes; not the Jimmy Mack from WBCN - (and to the Jimmy Mack from WBCN - another good guy and friend - r.i.p.) - so what you are suggesting is preposterous. WZLX did a lot of interviews for me - Mick Taylor, Jimmy Miller, Denny Laine - and a lot of co-promotes (Spirit, Mick Taylor). I was in no position to hire as I work solo (maybe a business partner or two, but no staff). Sorry Paul, we weren't hiring and if we were you wouldn't have been even considered due to your temperament...or lack of resume...take your pick.

Once again you have managed to take my criticism - not of Mistress Carrie - but of her "award" - and use it for your vendetta against me. Your post was a conflict of interest from the start - strike 1. Your hijacking it to attack me again is just more reason why you should stay on the Kansas board.

====================================
a nice Mick Taylor story. Unlike Alvin Lee, Mick doesn't like to do interviews. In the WZLX elevator going up "Do I have to do this?" - "Mick, they love you here, you will have fun."

We get into the studio. Dr. K pulls out a rare John Mayall tape with Mick at 17 years of age. Non-Stones questions were asked. We played the rare Brown Sugar with Mick Taylor and Clapton. We get back in the elevator "That was a great interview!"...my reply..."Ah, Mick, you didn't want to DO this interview!"

He's a WONDERFUL wonderful guitarist and human being. And, yes, he appeared on Visual Radio years later as well. Getting to work with my heroes is something that I still enjoy to this day. Doris "Just One Look" Troy is on my new CD "The Demo That Got The Deal" (same show Sully from Godsmack was on) - losing Doris was a very difficult thing. But having known these great artists - and talking to them on the phone night after night - the late Nik Venet -another tragic loss (producer of Beach Boys, Linda Ronstadt, A & R /Jimi Hendrix), makes my life fulfilling and complete. That's my world, Paul. I never chose to go to Kansas...or Marlborough...to do radio. That's my world and unlike you, wishing you were back in Boston, I have no regrets and Wouldn't trade it!
