Could a Taylor Swift format work?

Taylor Swift is talented. I even like some of her songs. But I don’t get why so many people are obsessed with her. Willing to pay thousands for tickets. Attending Chiefs games just because she is in the stands despite not knowing about football. Some have even camped out for 5 months to get front row seats. I don’t hate Taylor Swift. I do hate the cult of the Swifties. There are other artists just as talented as Taylor Swift.

Wait, someone attends an event without being versed in it? (Let’s set aside you have no clue what she does or doesn’t know.) Who has ever heard of such a thing?

When you think about it; is it any different than a political cult of a former President? Just a different type of followers.

Not a chance. Half of them aren't of voting age.
bold of you to think that swifties are old enough to vote

Hmm, not sure what you base this on. Taylor herself is 33. So she's no teenyboppr. Here's an article about the demographics of her fans:

Right now, on a music-related message board, fans are planning to gather next year in Downey, California for the 55th anniversary of the Carpenters' first release (which did not chart).

By comparison, attending an NFL game to possibly catch a glimpse of a currently hot artist seems...reasonable. Not anything I would have ever done for any artist, but...

My mother used to tell of skipping school with friends to stand outside a Boston hotel, hoping to catch a glimpse of Frank Sinatra, who was in town to sing that night. I'd imagine that was common in the '40s, when Old Blue Eyes was in the dreams of many a teenage girl.

That's because you aren't a Swifty. Have any granddaughters?

Taylor's the same age as Joni Mitchell was when she released HEJIRA, as Carole King was when she released WRAP AROUND JOY, and five years older than Linda Ronstadt was when she released HEART LIKE A WHEEL.
Joni Mitchell turns 80 today.

On the same newspaper page it says Taylor won Best Artist, Best Video and Best Live at the MTV Europe Music Awards which were cancelled due to the war.

Great. But percentage wise, young people don't vote, compared to over 50's, who do vote.

60% of US voters were over 50 in 2018, 64% were over 50 in 2022.

Chart is halfway down the page of this Pew Research article.
