Country on WXBK HD-2

If country ever returned they should bring back the WYNY calls.
In use by an AC station in Milford, PA. Besides, a station playing today's country music shouldn't use the imaging of a station best known for playing '90s country. A whole new crop of country stars has emerged since 2002.

WYNY is an AM station. 106.9 is a translator.

Agreed. Not many country listeners points west of the coverage area
That’s not what I meant … It is unfortunate that 96.1 doesn’t reach far enough to the west to provide signal to Eastern Nassau/Western Suffolk. They cannot encroach on 96.3 so their signal must stay to the East.

Was WYNY a full market signal on 103.5?
Originally they were on 2 WYC and directional to Long Island but then Westwood One worked out a deal with 103.3 in Princeton and 103.7 in Newton to allow a non-directional signal from 1WTC

I think the Y-107 quad cast could have worked, with the addition of a translator in Nassau county also on 107.1. It puts the country format in the suburbs and reduces the interference between them during tropo. Maybe split the simulcast to sell local ads

The call letters are W295AQ, not WYNY. Therefore WYNY is available
Technically, WYNY-FM would be available. WYNY with no suffix is the AM station in Pennsylvania. But again, we're talking call letters, only meaningful to geezers and radio geeks in this millennium. The sort of country music that a "new" WYNY-FM would be playing would have limited appeal to those who were listening to the "original" in the late '80s.

I liked Y-107. It had very good personalities.
But it seems to me that of the 4 signals they had simulcasting the programming, the one on the Jersey shore was carrying most of the weight. As I recall, the lion's share of their advertising was for businesses in that area. That leads me to believe the other 3 signals were not doing much for them. They may have been better off as a Jersey shore station, or purchasing 94.7 from Family Radio, as Cumulus did later. The fact that the owners did not operate any other formats in the area and thus did not have a cluster may have also worked against them.

Y-107 did OK in Westchester. The problem there was that in those days WHUD and WFAS dominated local radio ad sales in Westchester making Y-107 an afterthought. Now 107.1 is co-owned with WHUD and WFAS is essentially a corpse.

The current WYNY in PA has to be run by a NY radio guy (or gal). Its past call letters include WQCD and WDRE, and it now calls itself "Lite" and has a translator on 106.9, just one channel away from NYC's 106.7 Lite FM. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...

Milford, PA isn't that far from NYC. It makes sense.

New York's Country 94.7 HD2 is doing some promotion. They will be hosting a tailgate party prior to the Kenny Chesney concert at Metlife Stadium, this Saturday. It will include a dj playing country tunes.
That may be a first for an HD2 in this area.

Thunder 106 and Cat Country Jersey Shore would bring in most of the crowd as part of their on air/online promotions.I Heart NYC HD Country gave out free tickets to area concerts before 106.3 and 94.7 came on the scene, so Country HD promotions in the NY market is not new. Also: 1310 has good coverage in Staten Island and Southwest Brooklyn.106.3 still has pirate problems in Brooklyn.

Y 107's commercial load was heavily Jersey Shore. It did heavy promotion in Brooklyn.Even today,107.1 The Boss has great reach in Brooklyn and, when it was The Breeze, it had a lot of Brooklyn listeners while 'CBS-fm was Jack.

While New York's Country 94.7 HD2 is also awarding concert tickets, seems to me that hosting a tailgate party by the concert site is taking station promotion somewhat farther.

WXBK-HD2 showing up in the latest PPM with a 0.2. It's disappointing to see such a poor showing considering they actually seem to be trying to put something into this channel.

Yes, Country is challenged in NYC and HD Radio is challenged overall, but it's still a staple FM radio format that's not available on a regular station in the #1 market. 0.2 is pretty bad for having the format to yourself just because it's on an HD2.
