Cowboys out of the Ticket?

Maybe this will finally push Cumulus to dump the Bone and move The Ticket to 93.3. If that isn't enough, maybe even a swap with The Ticket on 99.5 and The Wolf going to 93.3.

You will see Cumulus giving up 99.5. Right now in the ratings they are beating KSCS which has done a face lift since the The twister ledft the air in July. They will put the ticket on 93.3 before they give up a strong 99.5 signal. As far as the Cowboy's Broadcast, I could see them on 105.3 if they stay or ditch the current format. Don't look for them back on KVIL which is a female audience. I think 1080 and 105.3 are good possiblities that make the most sense.

Don't you think that Cumulus could add KLIF and/or KPLX to the mix before they let the Cowboys get out of 3500 Maple?

Anything is possible.

My questions is, given the caveat, do you actually believe it?

Quite frankly, I trust The Observer for news as much as the Daily Kos.

I buy it, seeing that the cowboys arent stupid when it comes to keeping their options opened. KTCK hasnt been the best station for them, as the signal on the AM side(1700) is horrible at night, Not to mention most people still find themselves tuning to 1080 or 103.7 on game day...

Jerry wouldn't work a fair deal with CBS, IIRC, and that's why CBS bowed out of the games...and they weren't getting any kind of return for their money...they were losing money badly, and the "pride" in being the Cowboys' flagship wore thin with stockholders. In CBS's current shape, I really don't see them even making a bid, or being able to. In fact, with EVERY radio group doing badly right now, Jerry might not even have a taker if Cumulus drops out. But that could give Jerry what he's always wanted...supreme control over a station that he owns, or perhaps have full ownership of the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network, and have salesmen out peddling affiliate opportunities across the state. With Danny Snyder and the Redskins, we've already seen how a sports station can get bought up and turned into a 24-hour fluffy PR piece for the team, with no objectivity or naysaying, that mostly serves as a source to peddle season tickets. In other words, a 24-hour-a-day football infomercial.

And don't forget that one big reason the Cowboys' broadcasts sounded so good and consistent on KVIL/KLUV is because Ron Chapman was the madman running around in the background, checking the on-air signal constantly, tweaking this and that, and being sort of a self-appointed producer and engineer. He's not on CBS's payroll anymore. Then again, there's a LOT of folks not on the CBS payroll anymore who were when KLUV was the flagship.

Oh, and thanks, Richie Whitt of the Observer, for using my 1975 KRLD/Dallas Cowboys logo from my website without proper credit. He didn't even change the name of the .jpeg file.

Jerry has been approached several times and is not interested in getting in the Radio biz. He already has a sales force selling his broadcast for him, the deal with the Ticket is almost all trade. My guess is that ESPN goes after the contract, Big Bristol is not hurting, and has the money to make it worth it for Jerry, and have a station for the spanish broadcast.

CBS wants to put the Cowboys on KLLI locally. Dump the 105.3 staff, simulcast KRLD on 105.3 except for Cowboys and other live sports programming and you have a profitable combo.

YEAH, like that would happen.

LOL at Mike shannon.

Did you own the cowboys in 1975?

Then it is not your logo. You don't have the rights to use it yourself, so don't go bashing Ritchie Whitt from stealing something from you that you stole.

Any way WBAP might be a player in this?

My guess is yes, due to the agreement they(WBAP) and ESPN 103.3 have when it comes to broadcasting the occasional stars/mavs game on each others frequencies, so they have history with simulcasting. Plus, ESPN has their "deportes" station, which would be a serious deal-sealer with the latin listener, not to mention their facilities are right up the street from the new stadium...Id rather see them on the 50,000 watt blowtorch of the southwest...

WBAP is not interested in being more involved in the sports biz, they have tried to get out of the stars deal several times, also since the sell they no longer a affiliated and would not work together on a Cowboy deal. ESPN is moving to los Colinas in the near future so being close to the stadium is not a factor, and the Deportes signal is so weak I doubt that they would want to put Cowboy Spanish on it.

Citadel could be a player. They do have the rights to Oklahoma City Thunder and New Orleans Hornets. The interesting thing about the Hornets is their games are flagshiped by an Urban AC station. I think one other franchise has their flagship on an Urban/Urban AC formated station; the Memphis Grizzlies are on WRNO in Memphis.

Again you have to factor in what do the Cowboys want to do: do they want to own the rights, barter the time on a station and retain the sales and marketing or do they want a straight rights fee. Me personally, I think they like the fact that they can sell tv, radio, in stadium signage and other marketing opportunites than just a straight rights fee. Most NBA, NHL and MLB teams own their broadcasting rights(TV and radio).

I think Cumulus keeps this deal if they switch the simulcast to KPLX. They could throw in KLIF in a triple-cast too just to boost their chances.

If Jones just wants out of the deal and doesn't like Cumulus for some reason, then I think CBS is the odds on favorite to win it. However, I think WBAP/KESN would be a formidable challenger IF they want it. WBAP made lots of money for years with the Rangers. KRLD never has figured out how to do that.

If I hadn't kept it since 1975 and hadn't posted it on the web, then NO ONE would have it. I didn't say I owned the rights, just that I'd appreciate credit for providing it. (Sorry, I didn't mean to use the word "MY" earlier as if I owned it.) Besides, the copyright holder has never come forth to claim it or deny me use of it, even though a blanket invitation is posted on every friggin' page of the website. Why is this an issue?
