Cumulus is making some changes in Mobile/Pensacola

It's a great combo, the 98.3/95.7 pairing, but not nearly as good as having 97.5. The 60 dBu of both stations combined leaves out almost half the Pensacola metro area and neither station reaches the beaches (or rocks the docks? LOL) or Foley, Bay Minette or Atmore with a solid signal.

In fact since I'm in Foley I can attest that picking up WDLT and WKFP with anything less than a solid radio with a good antenna is very difficult under most circumstances. Usually 95.7 is just noise and 98.3 is blown away by 98.1 and sometimes bleed over from 98.7 if it's a really cheapo radio.

Of course none of this matters to EMF, since they just snagged a nice C2 in a much bigger market.

Most of KLOVE listeners will be online and in the car. 98.3 has great coverage in the car for Foley & Gulf Shores. The loss of listeners will be minimal.

KLOVE has a high TSL, and listeners will look for it. The big winners will be DLT (full coverage) and 97.5, most people don't understand the internal changes (sale) of WABB, and think it has returned, and will be excited.

Magic 106.1 will be the only casualty.

I believe most folks who miss WABB-FM truly understood the internal changes, since the sale of WABB-FM was the subject of many local TV broadcasts and news articles on the Internet.

The WABB sale is old news, and is good reflection for us radio geeks ;D

Nah. Read the WABD Facebook page. Many are confused, have questions, are happy, or sad. Keep in mind we talk about radio everyday. The listener is not concerned about the chess game of changing frequencies. They know 97.5 is back, and they are happy. KLOVE people will be upset. DLT listeners will be bothered because they will need to change their presets, or wonder where 98.3 went.

It is a big change for the listener, until they figure out what the changes are.

I believe this one will be a win win for everyone involved.

WLVM: This station will now be able to target those areas where they'll have the greatest success.
WABD: The listeners will be glad to see them return Top 40 to its original home.
WDLT: This station will gain more listeners, because of its bigger coverage area.

"People" is plural. ;)

True. EMF hasn't had time to build a listener base on 97.5 yet. KLOVE shouldn't have anyone bothered by the move to 98.3 or 95.7. The only losers are folks living in Northern Escambia county Florida and Escambia county in Alabama. I wonder if people that go to Indian casinos listen to KLOVE. Now on the other hand, 98.3 has been a top 3 spot on the Mobile radio dial for decades... people are going to turn there by instinct for years to come. Now 98.3 will be sharing god with the folks that accidentally flip to 98.3, the should increase EMF's listener base significantly adding the black audience to the white kids they got from 97.5

How well are they in the ratings? (KLOVE)

I think an old dude out in California listens.

I THINK YOU ARE WRONG. Everybody that I know absolutely loves the station. Sure, it might not be huge ratings wise but do you realize how many churches there are in Mobile? I go every Sunday and everybody talks about that station (KLOVE)

HA HA..they talk it because that's the only format that they can agree on...i don't see many churches excited about a new top 40 or urban station,

For that matter, isn't Mobile mostly Catholic? Or disproportionately Catholic compared to the rest of the state? Seems they would prefer different programming than CCM. But I could be wrong. All the Catholic stations I'm aware of carry mostly talk programming.

Tell that to the Catholics in St. Louis. Before Arbitron stopped publishing non-subscribers' ratings, KLJY 99.1 was usually top-5, occasionally top-3, in a heavily Catholic market!

Religious talk stations of any kind don't get many listeners, and that includes those that target Catholics specifically. Catholics, however, are also Christians, and there is no one exact way to practice that faith nor are there a specific set of reasons for practicing it. So, it seems perfectly logical to me that Catholics would enjoy CCM as much as most other Christians.

For some reason, 97-5's signal is weak out here. They used to boooom, but not anymore. Anyone else in the area having problems? I can travel all the way to the outlet mall half way to panama city and still hear them.

I was thinking about posting the same observation. I can't get 97.5 to stop on seek or scan since Cumulus sale was announced. My uneducated guess is that 97.5 probably isn't running 100% power until they get to know their equipment or sell.

Yeah, we got enough around to keep a cross builder busy.

That actually sounds quite sad. Your people are sitting around talking about Mobile getting a powerful OTA FM radio station that simulcasts KLOVE. Those folks must even know what "KLOVE" is? ... even though we've never had a local affiliate in Mobile before... Humm, I wouldn't want to be like one of those people. I hope I don't ever have to hang out with that type of old timer when they pull my number at the home... :)

My guess is that 97.5 is on low power and engineers are setting up the transmitter site for cumulus. Wouldn't be surprised if something was going on with 98.3 today or tomorrow also.

Cumulus didn't just take the ball and run with it in Mobile/Pensacola/FWB, Cumulus bought out the whole game and wrote a new rule book. Am I the only one trying to figure out which Mobile radio station Cumulus is going to purchase next?

The new stations in Cumulus' Pcola cluster all appear to be very stable, unlike Q-100 and Star 104 where before the intervention.

Will Cumulus have to balls to castrate one of their cash cows to try (yet another) a new format?

Isn't the big mystery now: What's going to happen to poor little ol' WRRX Magic 106.1? Everyone knows that I just want a simulcast of Mobile's WZEW. I think the old WCOA Pensacola will wind up on 106.1 with Rush and 100.7 will stand with Huckabee and follow in the path of Cumulus' news radio experiment in Atlanta. We'll see if it's possible for one 100kw station to keep listeners interested in Florida and Alabama

I did not know you wanted a simulcast of WZEW-FM's programming until I read your post. If so, why? Also what do you suppose would happen to WCOA-AM if WRRX-FM were to become the new WCOA-FM (with the same programming schedule as WCOA-AM) and the current WCOA-FM were to receive new call letters?

In response to the comment about "cash cows", I would suggest you use the word "gall" or others synonyms for "audacity" rather than a slang term for anatomical parts.
