CUMULUS SHUT DOWN IN LOUISVILLE?

Aside from some local programming, WFBR is now running Salem pretty much 24/7, including Doug & Kim in the morning (formerly on 105.9 The River) - it is essentially idental to Nashville's 94 FM the Fish. This is a bit of a gutsy choice being in WJIE's backyard, and even K-Love puts a fringe signal into Bullitt County on 91.5 and 97.9.

Jaci Valesquez, a popular CCM artist in the 90's, is now the new morning co-host with Doug on Salem and WFBR. I'm not sure of the whereabouts of Kim Bindell. WFBR does sound similar to WJIE and K-Love. However, WFBR seems to be less repetitive and they play several older songs which I haven't heard on WJIE or K-Love in years. I believe WFBR was originally aimed to reach a younger audience. I guess there aren't many networks available for the younger audience besides WAY-FM or Air1.

Air1 and K-Love are highly incompatible with the business model for LPFM stations, which rely on the more frequent use of underwriting spots, which are non-existent on EMF stations. LPFMs also have the ability to solicit the "enhanced" underwriting spots, which are really just full-blown commercials.

Not sure. The Current system Air1 and KLove are using for Satellite delivery would allow insert of underwriter spots.. However, I have never worked with EMF so I do not know if they allow any stations which air their programming as affiliates to do such.

both CHRSN (wayfm national feed) and Radio U's Network do allow such abilities multiple times during the hour.

Several groups, both local and out-of-town groups, have inspected the site and a few carrier-only transmission tests have been conducted. Something may break soon!

I applied to WXVW back in 1973, Charlie Jenkins interviewed me and didn't hire me, something we would laugh about about 10 years later when we both were exchanging members of the International Idea Bank, and I was managing WLEZ in Elmira, NY. If I remember correctly the P.D. at that time was a fellow named Mike Densford. At the time AM was still pretty hot all over. I do have to agree that an AM station run properly with local programming would do well in a small community. Nothing beats a good old AM signal pumping the oldies, (myopinion). And the 40+ age group would still like a true local radio station not a jukebox.

1570 "pumps the oldies" is that working for them?

Yesterday while driving in downtown Louisville, I saw a Yellow Cab with a "Classic Hits 93.9 WLCL" sign on top of it. ??? Wonder if they know that the station has been gone for almost 6 months? Wonder if Cumulus still pays for the advertising?

There are two Urban Gospel stations in the market already, WLLV(AM) and WLOU(AM), co-owned by a company (Davidson Media) that can't seem to spin them off to Golden Door Media as desired.

The sale has been pending for many months, and the stations are basket cases...no programming or production expertise, questionable or downright illegal engineering practices, an inadequately equipped facility-I could go on and on!

With over 200,000 African-Americans in the Louisville ADI, these stations shoud be doing far better than they are.

While we're on the subject of Cumulus, anyone hearing anything about WQKC(AM), 1450 KHZ?

Kim left the show to be a full time mom after her son was born - she announced that she would be doing this and stayed a couple more weeks after this announcement on the air so it wasn't anything sudden or unexpected when she did leave.  She had been out awhile before this as she had to stay in the hospital an extended period of time.  Jaci was one of the guest hosts who filled in in her absence.

Salem airs a lot of Mat Kearney, The Fray, Francesca Battistelli, Matthew West, Toby Mac, etc. as well as throw in an occassional Kris Allen song which are all popular with young people.  It's also not accurate to assume all young people listen just to or even prefer harder rock songs - different people have difference preferences just like any age group, and some like all kinds of music and switch between them.  I would say that overall Salem is a mix of WAY-FM and WJIE.  95.3 WFBR also airs a lot of its own programming and music - not all of the music you hear comes from Salem - hence why it sounds fresher and less repetitive than other stations.  I hear a lot of local sports coverage on WFBR as well.
