D. Geller: Atlanta Radio's Worst Commercials?

McDawg said:
One last one from a few years back - Do you guys remember the ad's for PERIMETER FORD!?!?! They practically screamed into the mic for the entire 60 seconds! I vowed at that time I would never shop there just because their advertisements were so annoying!

Was it a full 60 seconds or did it just sound like it? ;D

"PUH-RIMETER FORD!!! HAS A BIG SALE!!! ON RANGERS!!! PUH-RIMETER FORD!!! HAS RANGERS!!! FOR TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! UNDER INVOICE!!!"

Lastly, whatever happened to that car repair place at "that's 4801, that's 4801, that's 4801 Buford Hiiiiiiiiighway!"

This reminds me of an old funny spot on Mark McCain's Wake Up Crew on 96 Rock in the early 80s. Mr. B and the B-Team, and all of the kids on the B-Team, had an encounter with Wolfman Jack. Wolfman Jack was trying to impress the kids as being "the real Wolfman". The kids all piped up, "where's your furniture?", "where's your ginger jar lamps?" "hey, you're not REALLY the Wolfman if you don't have any furniture!", leading Mr. B to punch out the impostor (Mr. B punched out someone in every skit).

(For all of you folks new to the ATL who don't get the joke, http://atlanta.about.com/cs/celebrityprofiles/a/wolfman.htm )

Ah fellow board members, let's not forget about: "Honda, Carland... The Honda, of Honda dealers! *snap snap*"

What does that mean anyways!? Like the Jeep of Jeep dealers or the Chevy of Chevy dealers... I hope I'm not the only one who remembers that corny jingle... sure it stuck but I've never become a Honda owner. I was never impressed with the lady who said she had to get an oil change and knew she could count on the dealer... I mean seriously, don't we all know that new car dealers do oil changes!?

But yes, D. Geller's impersonation is so awful of Tom Shane that I'd rather hear the original man himself. He's been on Atlanta radio for many years now and yes we can't do anything about it, but why take a cheap shot and waste ad money on that? Should Hyundai dealers take cheap shots at BMW for charging more for a car? Man these D. Geller commercials do suck! And I'll never set foot in a D. Geller store.

I am trying like hell not to curse you into oblivion for putting that jingle in my head. ;)

 That was not my intention at all ... but I see it's not just me that hated that **** commercial! :p

Oh,no. You are not alone :) Actually, though it pains me to do so, I have to give them props. I've recorded hundreds of spots, listened to even more, and I still remember that spot from 10 years ago perfectly. From an advertising POV, it was genius.

ha ha that's probably what they intended now that we're talking about this years later :D - I wonder which advertising camp made that nifty annoying jingle that sticks with us. ;D

moreover, I wonder if they still exist. Commercials have been an interesting business since about 2000. Everyone started trying to get cheap commercial written cheaply and done for pennies by so-so VO talent and it's a damn shame

The ones I remember that are current are really just the QT commercials with the voice over guy and then the rocker who starts singing... those are funny. But nothing else truly stands out nowadays!

I posted last week that I don't believe anyone was born with the name Kelly McCoy.

The poster above is named September Day. I need to think about this.

Boggles the mind, don't it? ;D

The commercials for D. Geller & Son with an imitation of Tom Shane are in my opinion the worst on Atlanta radio.

Isn't there some other way they could pitch their store without the imitations? If they're supposed to be funny or clever, they're not coming across that way to me.

Wolfman's furniture commercials were worse.

Wolfman's furniture commercials were worse.

yes, they were. Thankfully, I haven't seen anyone telling me to "Ask for Donna" in a looooong time.

On TV those TitleMax ads with the girl singing TitleMax has your money you real money hehe." Is pretty darn annoying.

Well if HE went to Jared before he got his title back, should I go to Jared for diamonds too? Those Jared commercials, not even being a jingle but a phrase, did stick... they're not at all as bad as the TitleMax or Wolfman/Donna commercials though!

Wolfman has been dead for how long? Several years at least.... and yet you still remember the commercials. How many other credit furniture company commercials from three years ago do you remember?
I'd have to say they seem to have served their purpose.

On radio I can't offer an opinion as to which commercial is worse because I refuse to sit there and listen to 8 of them in a row - however - on tv the worst has got to be that pot bellied guy from Stone Mountain Toyota assuring us that we're going to have a pleasant experience while he sticks it in and breaks if off!!!!

That's not the same guy that's talking to the camera and then for no apparent reason, a UFO appears over his shoulder, is it? I HATE that ad.

Back to the whole D. Geller thing...I did hear Tom Shane in a radio ad the other day sort of explaining/apologizing for his unique sound. Self-deprecation works when it's honest.

This is sad and strictly off memory, but anyone remember the Rooms To Go Kids jingle that went a little something like this "Rooms to go kids, rooms to go kids, rooms for kids is what it is at rooms to go kids"? That's from a few years ago and sticks... And that oh so horrible "Your furniture is delivered tomorrow" song from Rooms to Go, a couple of years ago... they stick.... but I want them to get out of my head! Quit making me remember .... aaahh!! :p
