I, too, listened to the entire exchange. It's not the first time Michael has feigned ignorance about someone to have the audience laugh at him. If you had a clue, you would realize when Michael is going into his schtick about certain topics. If you were as intelligent as you claim to be, you would realize that Michael is actually well rounded in his knowledge of different topics and subjects. Also, Michael has 4 kids. Do you really think he doesn't hear the music that they play?
They don't play Fergie as bumper music. And the guy isn't that sharp. He knows what he knows and he likes what he likes. He does not strike me as someone who goes out of his way to experience things that are outside his comfort zone. And, he does come off as egotistical. Just as you do. Maybe that's why you're carrying so much water for him. Two peas in a provincial pod.

[EDIT] As for the markets you worked, many non-intelligent people have lasted quite long in this industry. Longevity isn't a precursor to intelligence around here. It could be the less intelligent segment of society enjoys you because they view you as one of their own.
I guess your bashing of Michael helps your ego and helps you to believe what a superior person you are. It must really eat you up that this non-intellectual has a successful radio program and is sought after to fill in for national radio hosts while you have to bounce around from market to market. I feel sorry for you and the best way to state it is in those immortal words of Mr T: I pity the fool.
[EDIT-inflammatory]
As I said, you know nothing about me. Certainly not about my level of education or experience. Given your commentary, I prefer it that way. If you were so "intelligent," you wouldn't need to make comments that get you censored by the board moderator.
In my present occupation, I have the opportunity to check out programming from markets all over the country. In the talk format, Smerco's show is as slickly produced as a big market show should be. But, more and more often, he comes off as condescending to his audience and is generally self-serving. Very egotistical. His subject selection is frequently out of step with what's going on in the rest of the world. There will be a day with a big political story breaking and Smerco is talking about some forgotten dinosaur rock band that hasn't been popular since 1979. Or a TV show that 0.5% of the audience listens to. Or some hyper-local yokel thing that pertains to only a tiny slice of the listenership. Then, he'll spend the whole hour on it! And, it's gotten worse over the past year or so.
If you are such a steady listener to his show and can't hear this, then it's you I pity.

I love how you are debating about all of the aweful stuff Michael does- yet you know every little detail about his show- it's like that famous line in Howard Sterns Private Parts "average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes a day. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes. How could this be? Answer most commonly given: "I want to see what he'll say next."
All right, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern? Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day. But... if they hate him, why do they listen? Most common answer: "I want to see what he'll say next."
not making a comparison of the two- there is only one Howard Stern- but...I just thought it was funny
Not really the case here because this guy is no Stern. In my case, the radio is on WPHT when I get in the car and I listen for a while. I used to listen for longer but more and more frequently, I punch him out after only a few minutes. The thing of it is that there aren't any other morning shows in the market that I care to listen to formatically, so I end up on am by default. More often than not, I leave Smerco to check out Imus on WABC (who is dullsville) then end up on KYW.
As another matter of comment, it seems that far too many posters on this Philly board are quick tempered and generally rude. Some of the most unpleasant folks on the entire Radio-info site. A critical comment about "one of their own" and we're in the 'red' already. Can't even have a decent discussion without immediately descending into personal slurs and general nastiness. I suppose it's just a reflection of the unfriendly people who inhabit this area.
Good thing there are no cars on this site because this Philly board would have the most crashes too.... ;D
