Dance/Electronica on 97.7?!?!

Hi d21ofnj and 800gigs!

I am glad that you are getting it! I still love it! I am so excited about the new station!
They are also broadcasting over analog TV channel 06! Too kewl!
I actually spoke to the individual tonight that owns the station!
I will be joining the DJ team!
I will keep you updated!

Hi DJ Gurl!

I may have my wires crossed, but I was tuned into 97.7. I didn't check, but I don't think they are on tv ch 6. I'll have to check. Now I'm wondering if d21ofnj was talking about wout or the other...??

Hi 800gigs!

The station is 87.7 FM. Give it a try! Let me know if you get it!
Try your analog TV station on channel 6 as well. I know he is broadcasting through both! :)
I can get both from here in Binghamton. Keep me posted! :)

You know, at first I thought 87.7 was a pirate when I heard "Get Ur Freak On" by Missy Elliot, but I was wrong. I also did check out 87.7 as well when I was recording an aircheck of "Out 97." Glad you got a spot, DJ Gurl, hopefully I can get a spot for at least a mixshow to the guy operating "Out 97" ;D

I pulled the damn cable wires out of my tv to try and listen last night on TV 6 to the one station, didn't get anything (and I don't know anyone with bunny ears)... and I guess this had signed off before I heard Out cause I didn't hear it when I got in around 2am from the bars...

d21..

I LOVED your aircheck! That was AWESOME!! LOL! Do more things like that!
Too kewl! Love your voice too!
I will also check out 97.7 and see whassup! :)

Hi Justin!

I know that they are short of DJ's to come in and keep the station running at this time.
Sometimes, however, there is some silence for about 3 minutes or so before the station comes on to play more songs.
Also, on analog TV channel 06 they do have the station ID, WXXW, and I believe a tag line "Binghamton Radio" or something to that effect.
I listen to it quite a bit during the day, but not so much during the evenings. Again, I do believe that it is due to a DJ shortage.
Try again and let me know if it works for you. :)
Are you trying from the Binghamton area? When I get to Vestal, it does cut out completely because it is a really low power station.

As far as I know, Hot 97 is run by Dan Comparetta, formerly of the Hawk - anyone out there who knows otherwise, correct me if I'm wrong?

I know Dan Comparetta personally...and have been to his house in WP, he does NOT run, or have any affiliation with "OUT 97" OR 'HOT 97'... however, he runs a great INTERNET "station" called "Now 97fm"...may be where you thought of the relation...its not "on-air",only internet, i listen to his live shows on friday and saturday sometimes and its not anywhere near endicott..in fact he i talked to him and he asked me about the "out 97" station about 7 months ago because he heard it...and thought i'd know..and based on what he tells me.. the station is located in the 4 corners (Endwell) area possibly, operating with an older orban processor? and says its possible its someone who knows about broadcasting and/or used to work /or does work in engineering for commercial radio.

I tried to get OUT 97.7 today from the South Side of Binghamton, and there was nothing but dead air.
I will try again later. As d21 pointed out, it is up and runnning! :)
I will check out Now 97fm! Sounds great! Thanks for letting us know about the internet station! :)

I have a house on the Eastside... up the hill a couple blocks from Alumni Stadium and I've never heard this station, but i keep checking...

Try to tune in friday nights. I noticed this station is not frequently on like the pirates in NYC and Jersey. I just happened to have my camera when I was in the area and uploaded the aircheck here.

i have not been on here in so long i had to re-register...anyways i heard i was mentioned on here and had to read on.. i did hear the "OUT 97.7" station...i gotta say...whomever it is..sounds nice..i had a chance to hear it a few months back when coming thru town from Sayre Pa. to home, then went back again a week later on a sat night to listen....the voice is very familiar but i can't put a finger on it...it was not dance music at all at the time..but a very hand picked selection of mainly 80's and some 90's that can be classified as "lost hits" or album cuts. Definitely not an amateur job, and for you techies..it sounds like the typical 2 band orban optimod 2200 on med chr setting (i own/have set these units and the sound is similar, don't quote me on it..just a guess)...nice stuff there...anyone know anything on it? email me if u do..so i can shut up about it..lol.

I have also heard the 87.7 station, no stereo pilot, no processing, very low modulation, gaps in songs like a gemini "robo start" cd deck is running music..noticed it has been on for at least a year continuously, i believe is on the hill that runs along rt 17 as you head from the curve to the mall...not sure...poss part 15 station...i'll check it out more later...

yes, i run an internet station "now97fm"..for the last 2 years...still fun except after the payments/reporting/royalties and so on...its definitley a hobby as there is no profit ever..it costs me more to run than it makes..but since i'm not in the business..its lots of fun especially..no layoffs, no boss..lol..it is great, basically run the same stuff as on fm....just without the bs of the "airwaves regulations", and its around the world...not 1 block. video of now97 is here http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=59867475

I had to register tonight to comment on this. Dan Michaels just told me about 'Out 97' tonight as I was leaving the WLTB studio... I decided to drive to West Corners to check it out. Imagine my surprise when I was able to hear it in the parking lot!

A peculiar playlist included Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, then Percy Faith and Elvis.

Excellent sound quality, and modulation on par with the commercial stations (like I can get with my Aphex/Texar/8100A combo... he-he!) but without all that heavy squash that the rest of us love so much. In fact, the guy on the air was on a rant about on-air sound quality of Clear Channel and Citadel when I tuned him in.

I think Dan C. could be right, but I would more likely bet he's running an Optimod 8000 or 8100A, since these are all over ebay at more affordable prices. I don't see many used 2200s anywhere... If they hit the 'bay, they bid up pretty good.

...and Dan... I checked out "Now 97" a couple of weeks ago and left it on in my office... it sounds great! You also inspired me to get some professional sweepers made for my own "95-five, the Jam"...

Don't worry, I only have a Ramsey kit for now, so I won't be competition for any of you guys, but I am teaching my 12-year old how to segue music and talk on the air.

Happy Broadcasting!

okay wait... so is this Out station on the Eastside of Binghamton or out in West Corners? Did we change station and locations all of a sudden?

"Out 97" is absolutely from the Endicott/West Corners area. It faded as I got toward Johnson City on route 17, and was mostly gone by the time I was on the West side of Binghamton. It did come in on the Vestal Parkway, but I did not drive East of WLTBs parking lot to see how far it would come in that direction.

I believe the Binghamton station is the 87.7 station that was also being discussed here. I attempted to tune that one in, but my digital tuner would only go down to 87.9 before flipping back to the other end.

It's also fair to note that the tuner on the aftermarket radio I have in my early '90s Nissan is fairly crappy, so YMMV...

I also know a guy who is a pirate from time to time on AM 1150. It comes in well on the Route 17 curve by the gold domes. He is not on very often. We did a show from his house many years ago (early '90s) actually spinning 45s and LPs!

If it's from Endicott/West Corners, how come it comes clear on the East side of Binghamton and almost into Kirkwood, but gets lost in Downtown and the West side? That's where I picked up "Out 97"
