Grown men(?), discussing repetitively,...MY 102. Newsflash: It's a "Chick Station"! Tube-top Rock for Bowlegg-id Cougars!
That format, as bad as it is, is only aired to satisfy those that sit down to pee!
While that may be true, unless some other station comes in to fill the void (and there IS a void), there isn't a whole lot else for "grown men" around here. Yes, Chuck is good, but if you want to hear anything new in the pop/rock world that's decent (and I say "decent" because the Planet plays just about anything but), then it's either this or B93.7. If you like country, well, then I guess you may be satisfied.
I would imagine there's other male listeners in the same boat, unfortunately. As I metioned in the Best Radio Market thread, Greenville is pretty embarrassing compared to Charleston or even Columbia. This market is begging for a decent rock station. And yet, the radio gods just must not have much pity for us.
And so, this will stay on my presets despite it's female "target" audience.
Except for 93.7, 97.7, and 102.5, as a male, there's nowhere for me to go as a male. The rockers are the only 2 male oriented stations in the market (maybe 92.5, I don't know), and they're an insult to the listener's intelligence, at least 93.3. I don't listen to 101.1 or their type of music enough to judge. I have a "news flash" for 93.3 - not all of their listeners (or, should I say, potential listeners) are rednecks. Just because we're in the south, and may be southern, doesn't mean we go for the loud, crappy, hard/driving rock they program and redneck, low class humor they seem to love. That's not the entire rock audience. I'd expect Entercom, of all companies, to know that. For crying out loud, we're in market #60. Yes, the market is very conservative and pretty southern (yes there are transplants, but the majority of the market is), but it seems diverse enough to support a balanced, well executed rock station that targets a broader audience. I'm in their target (M18-34) and have lived here most of my life, and can't stand it.
So, I'll keep listening to 93.7, 96.1, 97.7, and 102.5. 102.5 does play some decent rock occasionally. They're still
The only male oriented stations that I can think of here are 93.3 and 101.1. Maybe 92.5, I don't know. 101.1 is too old for me and I don't care for country. Like I've said for years, I hate 93.3 The Planet. Hate it. It's like the whole station is patterened after The Rise Guys, who are just an embarrassment. It's loud, crappy "rock" coupled with low-rent humor and presentation. Just afwul. Where are the Neon Trees? Gotye? Foster The People? Coldplay? Fun.? Kings Of Leon? Florence & The Machine? Killers? Oh, I guess that would be "sissy" rock using their mindset. They have such a "redneck" sound that it's impossible for me to listen to. Not everybody in the market's from the south, for one (although the majority is), and, duh...not everybody from the south is a redneck! It's senseless to be so one sided. As long as they live in their little FFDP/Pink Floyd/Linkin Park/Slipknot/Kid Rock/Foo Fighters/Aerosmith world, I won't be listening. And, yes, I'm in the target. I would love an alternative sounding rocker like WARQ/Columbia.
So, where am I to go. I guess 93.7, 97.7, or 102.5. The options are very, very limited. Hell, the music on 102.5 sounds less female oriented than 93.7.
