Yes "TRUE MUSIC FANS" are always the niche fans who believe THEIR format is the only true music. Lame. True music fans are ALL people who love music, whether it's Classical, Heavy Metal or CHR pop cheese One Direction. There is no 1 TRUE MUSIC fan, Many fans of music are very happy with radio because their music is played . Somewhere there is a Gregorian Chant message board of people claiming to be TRUE MUSIC FANS. When the masses like a format they get one. When you think all of your friends and the people who go to the same clubs you do, are the masses, you end up on message boards claiming to be the TRUE MUSIC FANS.
Radaioman, its time to put you in check here because you need to be. I am also saying this because you are NOT the only one that thinks this way on these boards so this actually isn't just directed to you.
I'll speak for myself here. YES, I am
VERY core to dance music. No shock to anyone here and no apologies for feeling that way. There are those in here that are core fans of their music and are passionate about it (XCountry285 basically could be the "me" of alternative, lol, the way he's been championing it after the loss of WRXP). For me, I DO listen to all sorts of music. I may not necessarily be into certain sounds but I will never knock anyone for liking it because music is all relative to the listener.
The point is this and yes, I'll say it again for the 1,235,687,206th time. For dance fans we can DEAL with what 92.3 Now, 'KTU and Z-100 are doing. But the truth of it is,
it's not ENOUGH, especially for a market like New York City that is rhythmic intensive. A Pulse 87 type station would be nice, but with EDM being as dominant as it is, a dance/EDM station couldn't truly sound like Pulse 87 did then. The EDM phenomena started taking off just as Pulse 87 left the airwaves.
The masses ARE out there because the media in general is exposing it that way through countless articles in newspapers and magazines regarding events, DJ's, etc. This isn't just 5 people in a club feeling that way.
This is what I SEE happening. There WILL be a dance/EDM format in NYC in the future. But by that time, it will be TOO LATE. The fervor will have died down a bit for whatever the next cycle is (I think R&B and rock are primed to return). That's why I'm pushing for radio to get in on this NOW.
And let me note this for the 2,378,432nd time since there's always people that "twist" this as me being the only one that wants this. I'm the one that's putting my neck out being outspoken about the issue and taking all of the "abuse and punches" from the critics in and out of the radio industry. Maybe I'm a sadist about this?

But there are TONS of supporters out there. I do have this strong belief in the format, not just in terms of the music in itself but the financial impact it has. I see it. And deep down I think corporate sees it too, but they'd rather keep it on a profile like an iHeartRadio versus putting it out there on standard FM (not just HD). Yeah, this may be the wrong time for radio to think this since the economy has been in the gutter but I feel that strong.
Sure, we have the Internet, social media, digital media players, smartphones, etc. But as I was talking to another veteran dance music fan who happens to be in the industry, there still is something about the music being heard on FM that matters. Maybe it's old school thinking nowadays but that's what he felt and I agree.
Once again radaio, I'm NEVER going to knock anyone on this board for liking a sound that I may not agree with. Please give us that respect as well. And that actually applies to anyone that feels the same as radaio.
Thank you,
TS
