DG makes a few additions

Not a recent addition but is it just me or is "I Concentrate on You" not one of Sinatra's better-known hits?

It has a great opening before he starts singing.

It was never released as a single. It comes from his 1967 LP "Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim", which was at the time a disappointment, as it followed a #1 platinum LP ("Strangers In The Night") and a #6 gold LP ("That's Life") but only made #19 itself. But Jobim's songs and Claus Ogerman's arrangements and conducting are tremendous, Sinatra restrains his tendency toward volume, and the album has aged especially well, attracting fans even today, many of whom weren't alive when the album was released. Very few of my CDs have found their way onto my 21-year old daughter's iPod, but that one's been there since she was 17 and it's still a favorite of hers.

The liner notes by Stan Cornyn are worth the price of the album by themselves.

I believe he's referring to the synthesizer arrangement and background sounds on her version of "Somewhere." Personally I have no problem with that version at all.

1980s teen pinup Molly Ringwald has a new album of jazz/standards titled "Except Sometimes," and DG played a cut from that album yesterday - her version of "Pick Yourself Up." I rather liked it, and found it better than the Diana Krall version DG usually plays (or used to).

oh ok...good to know that Chimp wasn't having some sort of delusional thoughts there... :D

I had a scar yesterday. While my affiliate has been known to play "Take It on the Run" (usually because the owner's son is filling in as a DJ) I thought I heard "Keep On Loving You". I was about 30 miles away and the signal's not great. I finally was able to make out the lyrics "Ballerina Girl".

The news about Molly Ringwald is encouraging. The more young people who appreciate this music, the better. Yes, I get that "Sixteen Candles" was 30 years ago ...

I remember someone discussing whether The Beatles or Brasil 66 had a better version of "Fool on the Hill". I heard The Beatles on DG; has that version ever been played? In my opinion, Brasil 66 is better.

Keeping track with recent additions to the DG playlist, they've done a great job of adding some covers of standards by contemporary artists. In fact, just about anything I've heard added recently has been a standard of some kind.

"Route 66" by George Benson from his tribute album to Nat King Cole (and he sounds a lot like him here)
"The Very Thought of You" by Molly Ringwald
"Nevertheless (I'm In Love With You)" by Michael Bublé and the Puppini Sisters
"Pennies from Heaven" by Paul Anka with Michael Bublé
"The End of a Love Affair" by Tony Bennett
"In the Still of the Night" by Steve Lawrence
"I've Got Your Number" by Tom Wopat
"The Good Life" by Tom Wopat
"Let's Fall in Love" by Calabria Foti with Seth McFarlane

Brasil 66 version plays on DG Adults Standards in a three minute optional break slot. Your local station is likely covering when it plays with a spot break. But I agree, I lean to the Brasil 66 version as a better one.

Just to be clear, Jeff Rollins did play The Beatles.

I haven't found evidence so far that Linda Ronstadt sang on "Handy Man" as Jeff claimed, but after he said this, stations that did not run a commercial, as mine didn't, went on to play "Perfidia". For some reason, Jeff also mentioned Rosemary Clooney's "Come On-A My House" and then asked if we remembered that. "Probably not." Probably not, since you don't play it. Or her. Charlotte's standards station, which has been on its own since Jones dropped their format, does.

I heard him play The Beatles last week too. I'm fortunate enough to work part time for an Adult Standards affiliate that's an FM with a great signal where the owner lives, breathes and sleeps his station. I must say overall that it's a great format that DG does well.

I was referring to "Fool on the Hill". DG has lots of Beatles songs.

After the Tonys, I was reminded the name Cyndi Lauper has come up a lot when stations were mentioned that tried to sound more contemporary in the way Timeless Favorites did. Now there's someone I hope does not show up on DG. I can't stand her.

Billy Joel was the featured artist on "Glee" last week.

I'm surprised I've never heard "My Life".

But they may be wrong if they ever try "You May Be Right".

"Movin' Out" should be movin' out if they ever try that one. I'm referring mainly to where he sings "Cadillac-ac-ac."

I was hoping this was over. This may not mean anything.

But until I heard it during an optional commercial break this morning, I had never heard them play "He's So Shy" by The Pointer Sisters.
