DG makes a few additions

Good to see Doris is back even if the album isn't really new material - I know it's old news but I didn't even know about "My Heart" until I read this thread. Will have to check it out. As for DG re-adding her old music back, I'd love that - though personally I'd rather hear "Secret Love" than "Que Sera Sera", but that's just me.

I like them both.
By the way, the local morning show on my DG station had "Secret Love" in the last 30 minutes, when the songs are all requests. The station is not as conservative as DG, and the requests sometimes reflect this, but this is at least encouraging.

So, today when we keep hearing how Adult Standards is the kiss of death to advertisers, why wouldn't Dial-Global want to update the format's promotional label the same way they've updated their music selection? Would they attract more affiliates if they dropped '50s and added '80s? How about ditching the name Standards altogether and replacing it with something like AC Gold? Because that's really what they've essentially done.
I do not want to see any of this done. They are still committed to including some standards, including new ones. The fact that they seem obsessed with 70s AC is irrelevant. I actually like a lot of that but would prefer not to have so much of it mixed in with the real standards and the soft oldies.

I just heard the most wonderful version of "My One and Only Love". Normally the DJs don't go back 2 songs, but Carl Hampton said it was Doris Day.

Last week I heard "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" on the local morning show. During the all-request time. No thanks!

What I heard from Jeff Rollins this morning was ideal. I wish it was that way all the time.

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by "Ride Like the Wind", though it wasn't something I was expecting. It still seems out of place, especially with the screaming guitar.

"Physical" was on the all-request part of the local morning show. I really like the classic country station I switched to.

"Que Sera Sera" was on the all-request half-hour of the local morning show one day.

"The Game of Love" was a Name That Tune. It's not really too bad, I guess.

Actually, they played the whole thing one day and it's pretty bad.

And now back to Dial Global. "Levon" by Elton John is one I wasn't expecting. There are lots of violins, but it just doesn't seem to fit.

"Levon" again this morning.

Is "Games People Play" one of the new ones? I like it, especially Pervis Jackson's "12:45".

"It's All Right" by the Impressions was two songs later. Now my local station goes heavy on the beach, but it seems strange for Dial Global.

Still, Nat King Cole's original "When I Fall in Love" was on when I listened.

And for the first time in ages, I heard "Song from 'Moulin Rouge'" last week. I did hear it on a local station that leans more toward big bands several months ago (it was Jones before the merger but went all-local when Jones was merged).

I heard a Caribbean version of "All Night Long", but that's not the worst thing. Whoever the DJ was at the time said something about Lionel's country album. Seriously? I was in a different room so I can't be sure, but that's supposed to be country? ::)

I saved this but forgot where.

A local affiliate can do a lot more than the national format, but For Doris Day's birthday, the morning DJ, also the station owner, found "A Bushel and a Peck". He said it took two days.

The same station is running ads for the Artie Shaw concert. The music is so good, but I don't think the station is playing him locally. I know Jeff's first "Big Bands Remembered" was "Begin the Beguine", but that's all Dial Global has ever done of his, I believe.

There sure seemed to be a lot of recently added songs in the short time I listened this morning.

"Love Me" by Yvonne Elliman, "Diamond Girl" by Seals & Crofts, and "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

On the other hand, "Somewhere" by Matt Monro was also played.

Not sure if they have been airing this for a while or not, but they played "Night Fever" by the Bee Gees last night. Seems a little out of character, but I suppose time marches on.

Yes, this has been mentioned. And it's not nearly as shocking somehow as when I heard it as a teenager.

But it seems such a shame when I can listen to the station in Charlotte, NC, where The Carpenters and Dusty Springfield are an afterthought and the music (or at least the style) of the big band era is the main attraction. The signal is atrocious without the simulcast partner any more. I enjoy the music, but it sure is stressful to put up with all the buzzing, especially around power lines.

Those aren't that "new". The Elliman song has been around for quite awhile. I'm sure I've heard the others as well. Diamond Girl has always been a 70's favorite! I was at summer camp the year that came out.

One curious choice when the local station played the most requested songs on the morning show:

"No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" by Kenny Chesney. The station owner interviewed Charley Pride at least once back in the day and has indicated he likes country music, but obviously pop is his favorite.

"Theme From Somewhere in Time" by John Barry and Richard Williams aired today at the end of one of Carl Hampton's hours. That was a very pleasant surprise. It was followed near the top of the next hour with "True Love" by Dean Martin.

Gee... I wish I'd heard that!! :-\

Anyway.....I recently heard Jeff playing two ..."oh really?"... Beatles songs. "Eleanor Rigby" and "With A Little Help From My Friends". His 7-8 AM hour often seems more "contemporary" than his after 9 AM hours.
