Did Entercom go shopping at The Phoenix on Black Friday?

5 per band, right? so CBS could...

That doesn't sound right. In this scenario you could own 10 stations per market? (5 AM 5 FM?)

5 per band, 8 max. so perhaps, 5 FM and 3AM or 5AM and 3FM.

Correct, except that CBS's ownership of two TV stations in the market apparently reduces the number of radio stations the FCC will allow it to own in this market. I have never seen a mathematical formula that expresses the limitation on radio stations that results from ownership of TVs in the market, but I've heard that the FCC will not allow CBS to acquire any more radio stations in this market unless it divests a TV station in the market.

If Entercom is truly looking to expand their presence in the Boston radio market, why didn't they aggressively go after WCRB in 2009?

They did, it fell through in the 11th hour.

there was a plan hatched for them to LMA ( then purchase?) a few Nassau stations including 102.5 WCRB that was put in play to keep their morning guys from going to Nassau and competing against them.

Once they re signed D&C who were locked out and had nowhere else to go Entercom told Nassau to pound sand

If Entercom is indeed trying to buy FNX, could we see CBS try to get FNX?

Apparently not. Although I have never seen the formula that reduces the number of radio stations in a market that a company is allowed to own if it also owns TV stations in the same market, CBS's ownership of Channels 4 and 38 apparently limits its radio holdings to the current four FMs and one AM.

CBS was up against the wall when it bought American Radio Systems and had to put many stations including WRKO and WEEI IIRC into trust to be sold. They were able to retain what was then 98.5 WBMX

The Justice Dept wouldn't let the CBS/ARS deal go forward without selling off Boston stations. It has something to do with control of the market because of having too big a piece of the pie IIRC. I doubt the Justice Dept would be willing to let CBS pick up another station, even one with ratings as low as FNX's without a fight

The proposed Final Judgment orders CBS to divest WEEI-AM, WEGQ-FM, WAAF-FM and WRKO-AM in Boston, KSD-FM and KLOU-FM in St. Louis, and WOCT-FM in Baltimore. These stations are currently owned by ARS. Unless the plaintiff grants a time extension, CBS must divest these radio stations within six months after CBS places certain stations which it is required to dipose of by FCC rules into FCC disposition trusts. The FCC disposition trusts require disposition within six months, with the result that the divestitures required under the Final Judgment for antitrust purposes and the divestitures required for FCC regulatory purposes will be accomplished during the same period of time. In order to insure prompt divestiture, the proposed Final Judgment provides that the divsitures shall take place within 6 months of the date CBS places stations into the FCC dispostion trusts or 9 months, whichever is sooner. This provision establishes an outside date based on the filing of the complaint in the event that there is any delay associated with the establishment of the FCC dispoisition trusts. (Plaintiff has no reason to believe that there will be any such delay.) Finally, in the event that the Court does not, for any reason, enter the Final Judgment within the time period measured by the establishment of the FCC disposition trusts or the filing of the complaint, the divesitures are to occur within five (5) business days after notice of entry of the Final Judgment
