did KIM flip again?

Maybe the recent addition of a 'wise sage' to the payroll is making positive changes in the direction of the station.

Maybe someone read my 'trip report' (see previous thread) and decided it had merit.

A quick perusal of the last 12 hours' playlist might lead one to think so.

We can only hope.... :-X

how the hell can you tell? they have not really committed to anything since they've been here....so how could they "flip" to something else?

not completely... they are not all the way back to their old format. They still seem to be playing current stuff, but are throwing in more of the 80s stuff. For instance, it's been a while since I've heard "Rosanna" on there (which is playing now). But, you are right, they really cannot seem to pick a format and stick to it. They seem to be juggling formats like when they originally started KIM as "women's radio" or something like that.

Decisions about format adjustments do not just happen by accident. These adjustments are coming from the corner office. And the corner office is getting the guidance from the corporate office. So the corner office is really just the soldier on the ground for the corporate suites.

Live and Local!!! Right.

I've been listening to KIM for the past 3 weeks since Tom stepped in to do drive time.... I have to say, that I really do like the variety of music they're playing AND Deb and Tom on the air rather than the annoying auto-announcer. I think that if they could find a strong morning team, the station could do really well. FM100 is just so stale now and with the exception of Jill Bucko, I'm not a fan of the personalities on there. While I adore Ron and Karen, the show just seems to drag without Steve. I think KIM could gain some solid ground with the right personalities on there. KIM's beginning to remind me of FM100 when it was "cool".

And, I had almost forgotten how much I like listening to Tom ad lib his way through song intros until the split second before the vocals start... I LOVE that ! Who does that anymore? That's skill... seriously :)

Not to attempt to diminish Tom's amazing abilities...but, ;D
It's called hitting the "post."
And most of the air personalities over 20 on here can do it very well.

I'm glad to hear another live voice on the air, too. Tom and Deb sound great. I just wonder how long before they get a morning show and who it will be. You're right it's been awhile since I wanted to listen to 100. I don't like it since Steve and Tom are gone. Don't really like the music mix either. I would like to hear Steve on the radio again. He has a good personality. What if they got Steve on the morning show, who could they get to be his sidekick?

If you weren't sure you could hit the post, you could always "ambush" the post with a quick adlib just before it hit, but that was a sure sign you didn't have the right stuff!

Remember Imus's great run-up on the Temptations' "Build Me Up Buttercup"? He ran the alphabet from A to X from the downbeat to the post, a good 25 seconds or so, ending with "T-U-V-W-X"---"Why do you build me up, Buttercup"! It was way cool back in '72 or thereabouts.

While Power 99 may have been a good station Memphis still has some formats missing. KIX is the only country station in Memphis, though I pick up Thunder Country 96.3 Out of Blythville pretty good. And they took away our smooth jazz station. But as I have said before If they should go back to the original KIM format. The Jack
Station in DFW does well. And sounds good. You can still here some jazz on 88.5 FM though the MCS non com.

KIM should have been a country legends station, protecting the flank of their cash cow, KIX 106. Then no one would ever think of going country in the market.

Look at what the Wolf has done in Nashville. Prior to their change, there were three country stations in the market; WSIX, WKDF and WSM-AM. The latest ratings shows that Wolf is close to beating WSIX, while WKDF and WSM-AM have slipped further down.

Back in the 80's KIX had 16 shares of listening, before Froggy went country. Where are those shares now?

CitaHELL needs to do this before some smart operator figures this out. Oh I forget, this is Memphis, the smart operators all left town.

With no competition, you become lazy, lethargic and loose. Have you listened to Young and Elder lately?

Fitting somewhere between FM100/107.5 and WRVR may not be such a bad idea... ;D

Fitting between FM100 & WRVR is a pretty small hole.
I agree WOLF would be a hit in the market, for one of the groups. Wonder who will end up doing it?

Deja' vu all over again!

I seem to recall this same conversation when 94.1 and 98.9 were in transition.

Either of the stations would have been a great home to move Classic Country (now on 790 AM).

Ah, such is life and the world of radio!

Yep.

If FM 100 continues the slide, then Entercom has a decision. Stay with the format and try to regain what they've lost to Q 107, or flip it? If they flip it, countering Citadel's KIX is logical and Entercom has already proven what it thinks of FM 100's heritage..therefore, Wolf 99.7

Question is, which would ultimately be more profitable? And / or less expensive?

While yes, SOMEONE should be countering KIX, will they be able to knock off enough listeners to justify it?

Also, by blowing up 100 and acknowledging that Q107.5 owns the younger demo, do you not drive the middle of the female 25-54 demo to Kim, HELPING Citadel in the process?. 100 needs to move to the 25-44 female demo, IMO.

Am I crazy? (wait, don't answer that!) what do you think?

I don't know. I was hoping someone familiar with FM 100s billing might chime in. Doesn't Entercom through WRVR own a pretty good chunk of the female audience already? Unless 100 wants to be a true CHR (again) and no more of this sitting on the fence stuff, then they need to do something besides duplicate WRVR's audience...Yes? No? What if they flipped 100 and skewed WRVR just a teeny bit younger?

It can't go on like this...and another thing...Isn't the time ripe for the return of Solid Gold Sundays or the Whatever weekends now that KIM is back to the Hot AC format?
