Diginet shuffle

More changes. Scripps News is scaling back and discontinuing their OTA broadcasts on November 15.

That means that Scripps is gonna have to find something to put on WDLI 17 come 11/5 (as in moving a diginet already on either WEWS ABC 5 or WVPX Ion 23 to fill the void).

Since 2017, WDLI has gone from TBN to Ion Life (which became Ion Plus) to Court TV to Bounce to Scripps News to whatever will be coming on November 15.

And also this means WEWS is gonna have to find something to air at 7p weeknights to replace the soon to be departing Scripps News nightly newscast "The Debrief".

Not necessarily. Scripps News will still be available on streaming weekdays (ONLY), and some may still be available for stations to carry.

And that something they found is a 7p newscast beginning Monday.

This now means all 4 TV newsrooms in Cleveland will have a 7p newscast (with 19 News at 7 airing on channel 43)

So...in a span of 7 1/2 years, it looks like this:

TBN-->Ion Life/Plus-->Court TV-->Bounce-->Scripps News-->Grit
Wonder how long it will be until they replace Grit with something else? Less than 1 year?

Surprised that they didn't move Court TV back to 17.1, or at least placed Ion Mystery there.

I understand that, but moving a network that WDLI/WVPX already carries would be easier and simpler than flipping with one that's on WEWS.
Channels 5, 17, and 23 are essentially a triopoly.

Technically. 17 and 23 are owned by Iyo Broadcasting, but that's just a glorified shell company that Scripps stashed a number of stations into to tell the FCC they were complying (nudge-nudge-wink-wink) with the limits of how many stations they could own after buying out Ion.

Real world, Scripps runs the Iyo stations, and with that, Scripps (for all intents and purposes) has 3 stations in the Cleveland market they can mix and match any which way they want.

It's actually been fairly common to see 5, 17, and 23 shuffle diginets amongst themselves, and this just would be par for the course.

Except two of those stations don't cover the Cleveland market very well.

They're on cable, which fills the gaps.

In the grand scheme of things, WVPX and WDLI are little brothers to WEWS - essentially flankers to carry Scripps diginets that TV 5 doesn't have room for.

As mentioned on the AVS Forum, Inyo doesn't care if their stations reach part of the core viewing audience over-the-air in a market. Just as long as they have cable coverage for the main channel(s). It's almost like when This TV was still on WIVM-LD, and was being passed off as the Cleveland affiliate, despite WIVM-LD or any of their repeaters not being able to reach Cleveland, or even the southern Cuyahoga boarder. The same can be said for all of the HC2 stations, neither of which reach Canton, which is their city of license.
