It's just really hard to appeal to a 25 year old AND a 54 year old. And while the cumulative exposure of Classic Rock means it does have some appeal to the younger end of the demo, including it can create flow issues.
A pat on the head for them yesterday, though, at (I think) the top of the 6pm hour: The Who's "The Real Me" into Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" worked shockingly well. If they can bottle that and use it all the time, I'd be more sold. BBC 6 Music tends to do that sort of thing well on a pretty regular basis - I really wish that, if they must cover the classics, they could go that way.
