DSC back in the air on July 12?

Does anyone else find it ironic that within a few days of DSC announcing their move to Jack, 101.5 KGB shuffled its lineup to put Bryan Schock and Coe Lewis on in the mornings?

Were they holding out hope that they could get the DSC back? The timing of the move (and the fact that it happened midweek) is curious, to say the least.

I think it was more of move to have something officially in place on KGB. They also put BC and Clint in afternoons on KGB around the same time. It's a last-minute effort to make KGB look like they have a "personality-driven" plan instead of just throwing a bunch of leftover personalities who were already in the building into airshifts (which is actually what they did with BSchock, Coe, BC and Clint.) But hey, now it's "official."

CC was negotiating with DSC to bring them back right up until the end is the word in the CC building.

They must have heard that Jack made an offer first and then countered? Otherwise why wait so long to start negotiating after tossing DSC out on their rumps back in December?

But to what?
100.7, yes.
But to Jack?

Um....
Jack plays a lot of music that isn't typical of other stations DSC has been on. Like Kajagoogoo.
Hmm...

They WILL be on 100.7. But will they really be on Jack?

They can jack off and it won't matter. DSC was never about music. DSC is about bits that make a chief squeemish when the phone rings. They could be on the Beautiful 690 and do what they do and it wouldn't matter. DSC isn't about any format other than getting someone to laugh out loud, write their congressman, or go to confession. Who cares about Jack? Hide and watch how much DSC is on Jack and Steppenwolf is gone forever.

Tsl. Dsc listeners will defect to KGB at 10:05am every day. And seeing how close they are in dial position, is that a good thing?

No, they'll likely just turn off the radio. DSC's act had no relation to the music on KGB - it was incidental to their show. I don't know how Jack has done in mornings to this point, but they start from zero with DSC, because whatever audience they did have in the morning will be the ones turning to KGB or some other music outlet or perhaps to a more palatable morning show such as Mikey.

Relative dial position has little to do with radio listening, I suspect, as we have become dependent on the push buttons and going from 100.7 to 89.5 is as easy as going from 100.7 to 101.5.

This will be an interesting experiment as Jack could find itself becoming a one-trick pony totally dependent upon the morning show. You have to wonder if Jack has been a money-maker to this point: the low expenses (how long has Midwest owned it?) would seem to have made it easy to operate in the black. It should certainly present an interesting challenge to the KFMB radio sales team which hasn't had anything exciting to sell since, when, before Y2K? No doubt a lot of their current customers will not want to be associated with the kind of juvenile humor on DSC, so they've got to go after a different kind of buyer. Hopefully they've been calling every sponsor they heard on the old DSC airchecks.

If this does work out, it will be the first smart thing KFMB has done in way too long, and maybe it'll make the realize they should do something smart with their AM.

How does Jack start at zero with a morning show when they tried Monique and the Man for a few years before dumping that show and going all music instead of talk? From what I've lightly read around the 'net it seems like SD Jack is about the only Jack station to try a morning show at all. Are there any others that people know of that do something other than play music 24/7 with a few ads thrown in?

104.3 JACK FM in Chicago tried Steve Dahl in 2007 and was cancelled due to low ratings

High school bath room humor or whatever, I believe DSC will bring a large and sustainable audience to KFM-BFM. Like them or not, they're funny, creative, and we better hope they show the rest of the world that live morning radio is relevant to someone, or else you'll get the next version of Montovani plays the best of Steely Dan on your morning commute.

Wow, interesting that Dave disputes the claims that KGB made on the air that they were offered a "lucrative contract." He claims that in fact, they were fired, and that KGB lied in Janurary.

I find it surpassingly easy to believe that KGB (or more correctly, KGB's corporate parent) lied. Don't you?

While Jack presumably has not had much of a morning audience until today, you have to presume that the folks who were listening to their all-music format in the morning will go elsewhere as of today: hence, starting from zero. The M&M show has been gone for quite a while so it's not like they are going from talk to talk - and M&M's brand talk was very different from the DSC.

Speaking of the Jack format, 100.5 Jack FM in Las Vegas will flip to news/talk, and there's rumors that Jack Chicago would soon flip. You think Midwest would change up the playlist on 100.7 FM and maybe even change the name, in order to make the station fit in with the DSC?
