KHTW doesn’t cover anything outside the triangle.
Actually, this afternoon, I was receiving a very listenable signal on 1300 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The airing of the Rockin' Crab promo following the top of the hour newscast confirmed that this was indeed KHTW Freedom 1300. I do believe Lake Charles is "outside the triangle."

I'm glad to see that he's putting that money from the sale of the Winnie station to good use. Or not. I'm not sure whether he has actually purchased KNMF 106.5, or is just ending his (former) call sign to them. From what I gather, it's part of a larger group of stations all situated in the Taos, New Mexico area, and although the 100,000-watt radiated power is impressive, it looks like it covers less heads than the Winnie station did.

Yes, a signal heard in Lake Charles with such static no one but a radio geek would listen to. How long until the big upgrade?

You folks aren’t fooling anyone.
Neither is the unidentified individual who showed-up at the KHTW transmitter site in Lumberton, claiming that he was the licensee and owner of the real estate at that location. I believe I know who this wingnut is, but in keeping with Frank's instructions not to make baseless accusations without concrete proof, I'm going to want until I can receive and review police reports from Hardin County Sheriff's Department and Lumberton Police Department before discussing this matter further.

I heard KHTW really strong in Austin!! /s
I'm sure there are a number of listeners in Austin. All you need is a phone and an Internet connection.

I swear I heard KHTW when I was in Juneau, so perhaps Joe can log that as well. /s

One day, streaming audio will be more popular than broadcast radio. Then you can lease a translator for pennies on the dollar.
We are seeing this already in many areas.

First, there are lots of formats that are not available via over-the-air options in many markets such as "oldies" for those over 60 or so or jazz or soft AC to name a few.

Second, many streams that are ad-supported have fewer commercials.

Third, paid streams may have no ads at all. To those who can afford it and like the options, this is a very significant option (and the one I employ).

Fourth, while some stations play music we like, the personalities might be annoying or intrusive.

Fifth, some enjoy deeper playlists than commercial stations tend to employ. That is an option with some streams and will take a percentage of listeners.

All these combined can take a huge percentage of traditional over the air commercial radio listeners.

naaah i don't see that happening.
Well, in 2002 in 6 AM to Midnight, an average of between 18% to 20% of all persons 12+ were listening to over-the-air radio throughout the day. Today, the figure is around 5%. The other 3/4 of all people today are listening to streams, podcasts and satellite. That means that it already happened.

Considering that would be well outside the 0.25 mV/m coverage of the station with a directional array at full 2 kilowatts, there's no way in hell the station can be heard in Lake Charles.. unless it was running illegal power. Big upgrade? That it's not happening..
