Justification for Silent STA
On December 23, 2022, the license of primary station WEGO’s FM translator, W252DI, Concord, NC, was assigned to a noncommercial educational broadcaster. As the FM translator provided the majority of WEGO’s audience, it was decided to suspend operations while the licensee explores other program alternatives.
But not for Air1.EMF has plenty of coverage with 94.1 and 91.9.
WSAT needs WEGO to reach Charlotte.
Several weeks ago I heard their legal station ID on WSAT. So either they weren't, or they were doing something wrong. They must not agree with you. WE-GO is off the air.

WSAT was off the air last time I checked but its translator was on.
They can't have the translator without an AM. And like I said, that translator won't get very far when another one is 30 miles southeast.Looks like they applied for the STA on Dec 23rd. They were off the air when I drove by the transmitter site this past Tuesday.

You have this backwards. WSAT is off the air. The translator is still airing the same programming. That is not a translator that has been sold. The situation can only be temporary.I am not sure what this means.
They sold the translator to EMF. They did not sell the AM. For some reason they decided to take the AM silent. (see post #3 in this thread) They can operate the AM without a translator. They operate WSTP without a translator.

An FM booster or FM Translator station rebroadcasting the signal of an AM, FM or LPFM primary station shall not be permitted to radiate during extended periods when signals of the primary station are not being retransmitted. Notwithstanding the foregoing, FM translators rebroadcasting Class D AM stations may continue to operate during nighttime hours only if the AM station has operated within the last 24 hours.
You didn't say this was about WEGO. You were responding to my post about WSAT.I do not have it backward. 2B Productions sold W252DI. That translator was translating WEGO (1410AM). When the FCC approved the transfer of W252DI from 2B Productions to EMF 2B Productions filed a "Request for Silent Authority of an AM Station Application' with the FCC for WEGO. You can look it up. The file number is 0000205969.
That's a problem as one of Charlotte's most popular stations is at 101.9.If WSAT (1280AM) is off the air and W277DD is still on the air they are breaking the rules. Part 74.1263 section B states...
It appears 2B Productions has filed for a construction permit to move W277DD to Granite Quarry. Looks like the frequency will change to 101.7.
But I have to wonder how much the translator even helps. the AM signal goes farther, at least during the day.The only reason why these religious groups bother with these little AM stations is so they can get the FM translator. Case in point WAVO 1150 who's AM dial position never gets a mention, just the FM translator dial position.
With only 5 to 10 percent of all radio users still listening to AM, it doesn't matter how far the medium wave signal travels. The station in the 88-108 band will always have more actual listeners. But I have to wonder how much the translator even helps. the AM signal goes farther, at least during the day.
And yet the EMF programming won't reach people any other way, once you get outside the translator's range. With only 5 to 10 percent of all radio users still listening to AM, it doesn't matter how far the medium wave signal travels.
