I agree 100%. Emmis would give Chicago the young end hip hop station it has long deserved. They would do the format exactly how Power 92 should have been doing it all along. Power 92 would be the station to really suffer if WKQX does go hip hop.
There are those who say hip hop is oversaturated in Chicago. But Chicago doesn't have a pure hip hop station, the urbans play plenty of R&B. Plus the fact that WGCI still pulls the big numbers it does proves there is room for more Urban stations in Chicago. It reminds me of New York, many people were critical of Clear Channel for going hip hop on WWPR, they said "The last thing NY needs is another hip hop station, it will fail miserably". How wrong they were, There was room for WWPR, they have consistently had good ratings since going hip hop.
There are those who say Hip Hop is a tough sell. But look how good Emmis's KPWR bills in LA. They are one of the top billing radio stations in the U.S. If Emmis could build a station that is the Chicago version of Hot 97/NY or Power 106/LA, a station that becomes a major part of the youth culture, advertisers (targeting young) will not be able to ignore them.
