Energy AZ 2002-2008

Rumours swirling that it will change to 'The Beat' and will have Kid and Ruben hosting AM Drive.

I doubt this rumor, however if that did happen it would be cool to have a Z103.5 type station, but until the 101.1 signal gets upgraded there's no way this station can be a true playa in the market on a bigger scale so doing Z103.5 simply wouldn't work at this time when there's already more than enough stations to hear hip hop and rock jams.

The 92.7 signal is basically unlistenable across most of the Valley even on a good car radio (unlike in years past) for some reason, and 101.1 is spotty everywhere.

this is all a shame, Energy is an awesome station!

You're referring to Z103.5 (CIDC) in Toronto, correct?

If so...for those who are curious... http://www.z1035.com/player.php

I'm sad to see Energy go as well. Once Energy leaves, there is nowhere to go for dance music. We definitely don't need a Z 103.5 here in Phoenix because we already got a bunch of hit music stations. In regards to the signal, 101.1 is probably the better signal in the East Valley, even though that signal comes from the Payson area and the 92.7 FM signal is just down the street on South Mountain. Go figure!

Hi everyone,

I am The Radio Kid. I live in New York State, and am/was a big “Energy” fan. I am terribly upset that this radio station is going away. I will miss it much.

I would like to address this post to the Phoenixians who are reading this, and who were fans of “Energy.” Not being a local, I’d like to ask you, disenfranchised Phoenixian dance fans, where will you go now that “Energy” is gone? What station will you listen to now? “Movin’”? “Power”? “Jamz?” Don’t hold it against me, please. I’m just asking cuzz I’m curious.

Now, a quote from asugeorge1: “We don’t need a “Z103.5” station in Phoenix, because we already have several hit music stations.” Uh, no you don’t. All you have are: KKFR “Power,” and KZON “Jamz,” which are urban stations, not CHRs. I feel sorry for you Phoenixians because your radio market is so far behind the times, you don’t have a CHR station. How lame.

I do commend your market and KNRJ for bringing something unique to the market, though. “Energy,” you will be missed.

I guess KZZP doesn't count?

WHAT? there's actually a station on 104.7?
Everytime I pass that signal someones always talking.
Blah-blah-blah-blah especially during morning drive.
Hell, if I want to hear Blah-blah-blah-blah I will turn to KTAR FM

There is no textbook definition of "CHR". KZZP (which you did not mention), KZON, and KKFR are different flavors of CHR for this market. Every market is different.

The kind of CHR that I suspect you are referring/accustomed to (a balanced mix of several genres of music) last worked on the ORIGINAL KZZP in the 80's. Once hit music became fragmented (late 80's/early 90's), it stopped working in Phoenix. That type of CHR failed on KOY-FM in the early 90's, it failed on KKFR in 1994 and it failed yet again on KZZP from 1999-2001.

And there is no "Urban" station in Phoenix.

Heres hoping too that possibly Movin adds a few more currents and who knows maybe at night could go even more current and have High Energy After Dark.

Uh, oops. I hadn’t heard of that station until you wrote that. When I searched radiostationworld.com for the stations in Phoenix in order to write my response today, it didn’t list KZZP, or “Kiss,” or whatever. So, I read your question, and looked up KZZP on wikipedia, and finally linked to their website, where I’m listening now. It’s not a bad station. So, um, I’m sorry everyone.

Now, back to my question: If you are an “Energy” fan from Phoenix, what station will you listen to now?

Saladdressing: Don't forget "Area 38" and "Boombox" on sirius, there pretty cool too. even though "The beat" does sound closer to what Energy plays, those stations do a more different take to dance.

For XM, we still got BPM and The System (although that is rumored to be disappearing next month). The Move is still scheduled to come back at some point. That's where I will have to go once Energy says goodbye. :(

No doubt about it. Was very convenient to just punch up Energy and wasn't much need to even check out the Sat. radio stations, but yeah the combo of Area/Beat on Sirius is nice. Still wish Energy would stay tho. Local flavor, local commercials, I don't know it's just weird that it's going off the air supposedly

Where did you hear that?

Now not a rumour. It's a fact. The station will become The Beat, and Kid & Ruben will do AM drive. As far as revealing my source, I will not.

The Beat as in KDAY The Beat in L.A.? Would be cool to hear the likes of Wendy Williams, Michael Baisden, and Monique along with Kid and Ruben. Would be something different just like Energy gave us something different

I guess they don't want success!!!

They wouldn't know success if it stood in front of them and yelled "look at me, I'm Success, hey I said I am success"
