That station, which used to be Henderson's, is an ultra-suburban, lower-power facility that only puts a 60 dbu over about 160,000 persons, mostly way out in rural Grimes County with tiny bits of Montgomery, Waller and Washington counties.

It will compete with KLTN the way that Schwinn competes with Mercedes Benz.

Sure. For a while there have been All Elvis and All Beatles stations, usually in preparation for a format shift.

And Selena does not have that big a library of hits and "playable but wasn't a hit" songs because her career was cut short so early.

It's in the digital domain where a stream can't do more than a couple of titles by an artist in a row. In fact, when Sirius/XM has wanted to do a tribute to an artist who has passed on a general music channel, they have to get permission from the rights owners.

Umm It will be interesting to see what format will be on 105.3 FM after the holidays though. But its a novelty for now.

They're just trying to hitch their wagon to the Selena Netflix series. Whatever the next format is, it'll fail. This operation trying to go head to head against Univision, Entercom, and Estrella is like a purse chihuahua trying to fight a rottweiler. They need to sit down and learn a thing or two about demographics and how their intended audience is already well served.

It amazes me that these people still don't get it. Translators like these are better suited for niche formats. If I were the owner, I'd fire everyone top to bottom and go after the Vietnamese speaking community. There are tons of vietnamese owned businesses in this town (especially in the southwest). I'd hire a real engineer and try to move a translator to Missouri City to blast the Bellaire Blvd corridor. Several TV subchannels have had success. I can't see why a radio station can't do the same when there is no competition in the dial at the moment.

You are aware of Radio Saigon Houston on KREH 900 as well as VietRadio on KGOW 1560? The former has been on since the late 1990's and the latter since 2017. If you are talking FM only, there was a failed attempt on 98.7 a few years ago (RadioVietHouston.)

KEYH would be a great facility for reaching the Vietnamese community in the SW part of the market, should that station ever be sold and it was determined a third Vietnamese station would work.
 
Here's what I know of the Vietnamese market in Houston. Vietnamese population is about 150,000. The Vietnamese population that was born here is much more likely to listen to English language radio. While the culture and language remain strong in the population born here, radio is generally not the way to reach them. Two stations, from what I can gather, is about all the community can support. This information came from working with Little Saigon Radio about 6 years or more until they left Houston.

I think your ideas are sound. Another opportunity is serving Katyzuela where you have a large and growing group that has no commonality in format taste with Mexican heritage listeners.

Incorrect. Hot 95.7 did it also. It was a stunt that then PD Mark Adams did for one day when Britney Spears/Pussycat Dolls was in town for their tour back in 2009. I was there at the station at the time. The New Brit 95-7 Houston's Brit Hits!

While you're correct about "Brit 95-7", the comment you're saying is incorrect was regarding Beyonce, not Britney. As stated before, KROI stunted with all Beyonce as "B92" before it debuted "Boom 92".

Finally had a chance to check out the Selena mess on K287BQ. It still sounds like they’re feeding the transmitter with an MP3 player - lots of gaps between elements. Hilariously low budget sounding VO’s... and some content that sounded like they grabbed some random interviews off of YouTube.
