FIRST LISTEN: SEATTLE'S Q104.5

The point being we had a great station for a couple years....but we all knew it was just a placeholder...so we should just shut up about it and go on with our lives? ???

Jack Griffin - remind to never listen to a station you program. "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" is an album cut? It peaked at #4 and was Steely Dan's highest charting single.

Jack wrote "album version," not "album cut." No need to be so snarky, curiousf...he was just stating his opinion.

Whoa easy with the facts there fella, those are fighting words around here.

Yeah, let's cut the playlist down to about 200 overplayed oldies. 200? Well, I'm being generous here. You Make Lovin' Fun, Still the One, You're the One That I Want, Play That Funky Music, Stayin' Alive, Just the Way You Are, ....

You are correct, he did make that distinction. I stand corrected and apologize.

I guess I was still a little perturbed when I wrote that, being that I have followed this station since it started and felt that they were on to something special and unique, only to have them transform overnight into another "classic hits" clone that can found at any one of thousands of corporate programmed stations.

Right after they went on the air, I remember hearing them play "Hi Ho Silver Lining" by Jeff Beck, a one-off single he did between The Yardbirds and The Jeff Beck Group (and as far as I know his only vocal). The only place on the radio I've ever heard that played was on Little Steven's Underground Garage. In addition, if they played the Stones, they would be as likely to play something from 12X5 ("Around and Around", "Confessin' The Blues") as "Brown Sugar". Not to mention some of the great lost 70's bubblegum songs.

Their playlist is still a little more varied than KJR-FM, but not by much. I could go on and on, but I won't...

I must mention that I did agree with one of Jack's suggestions - hire local on air talent (live, not VT'd.)

FYI Manny, if you are interested in world class snark, check out some of Jack Griffin's posts in other threads.

I've said my peace, I'll shut up now...

Just heard "Runaround Sue", "Double Shot of My Baby's Love", and a few other 60s songs.

The sky isn't falling people. Their playlist has been drastically reduced (which does include cutting out garbage novelty songs like Surfin' Bird) but it is STILL superior to KJR's ELO/Fleetwood Mac/Doobie Brothers/Eagles marathon.

That's funny. It seems whenever I tune into KMCQ all I hear is Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Doobies and Steely Dan. Oh, and yesterday and today on my way to work, I got to hear that age old gem, "Kokomo". Two days in a row! Wow, what a treat! So, kudos to whomever has taken over the programming at the station. Its an old joke, but you may as well just change 104.5's call letters to KRAP.

After posting several times about how awful a radio station is, why in the world do you listen to it so often?

That would be a good question AQH, except that I said "whenever" I tune in. I rarely listen anymore but for Sunday mornings for AT-40 and I punch the dial in my car on my way to work, which is only a 15 minute drive. I am usually listening to AM 1090 but occasionally will dial in 104.5. It's pretty pathetic that with how infrequent I do listen to KMCQ anymore, that I hear the tired old crap that they play now, especially Kokomo at virtually the same time two days in a row. By the way, I am not the only one complaining or voicing displeasure on this site regarding the idiotic changes at that station.

To one their own, but my definition of "rarely" isn't two consecutive days. Let alone enough time to hear the same song in consecutive days.

Get out, enjoy the world and the warm weather, don't worry about a g-damned Beach Boys song.

I could say the same for you about my posts AQH. You clearly disagree with me, why do you even bother reading them? Get out, enjoy the world and the warm weather, don't worry about my g-damned posts. Oh, and by the way, I do consider a small portion of a 15 minute span, two consecutive days in a row to be rarely

yep tooounc2e a great suggestion! time to get out on a trip and enjoy the world. perhaps you should check out the warm weather in aruba, jamaica, bermuda, bahama, key largo, montego, or martinique. yep, that'll help make you forget that g-damned song.

Just heard "Summertime Blues".

Let's play a game, this week pick a random non-specialized hour of KJR and list all of their songs for that hour, and then do the same for KMCQ any day of the week at any hour. Tell me how similar they really are.

It sounds like KMCQ is getting somewhat better, better than KJR, but still missing the deep cuts. If any of you hear "In A Gadda Da Vida" again I'm putting it back on my preset! :)

11:48 AM - "Let's Go To The Hop" by Danny and The Juniors played today.

That kills the argument. KMCQ is more like the old KBSG, not KJR. The argument should be dead and buried now.
