FM Frequency of The Week: 106.9

From Bristol, CT WCCC-FM is a local on 106.9 FM. 106.9 The Rock. This is one of the stations H. Stern worked at before he made it big - then known as 107 CCC. Due to budget cuts the discontinued their HD2 channel. Their HD2 channel relayed their 490 watt day/11 watt night AM Classical Station. AM 1290 Beethoven Radio with IMUS in the morning and play-by-play of West Hartford High School Sports.

From Fayetteville, Arkansas:

KHTT (CHR K-Hits 106.9) out of Tulsa,OK has a pretty consistent weak to moderate signal. Will sometimes come in rather strong at night and mornings with tropo.

A few times a year, KTXY (Adult CHR Y-107) out of Jefferson City, MO or KTPK (Classic County) out Topeka, KS will mix in with KHTT.

107.1 KHIT over dominates in Clovis, their tower is close by, when driving up the Sierra Nevadas up about 25 miles I pick up KCBS-FM.

I meant KFRC-FM, not KCBS-FM which is 93.1 Los Angeles and I have picked up it before also.
Very confusing though, CBS should make the SF station KCBS to match the simulcast of the AM and make 93.1 in LA KNX-FM or KLJK to match the JACK-FM format.

At home, 106.9 is dominated by WMOZ, Moose Lake, MN, a class A station 26 miles away. However, it fades out in the car once you get a few miles away, and in higher parts of east Duluth and along the North Shore of Minnesota WUPM, Ironwood, Michigan (111 miles from home, about 100 miles from the eastern edge of Duluth) comes in with variable strengths depending on your location and the propagation at the moment. For example, it is very weak during times of no propagation in Duluth, but can be very strong in Grand Marais even without any special propagation.

I've also received KROC, Rochester, MN (221 miles) several times at home on that frequency, KEGK, Wahpeton, ND (202 miles) once, and WWVV Bluffton, SC during an E-skip opening.
