Forgotten, Not Gone

John Astin still acts fairly frequently in episodic TV, and toured for a couple of years in a one-man play in which he played Edgar Allen Poe. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0040014/

After Green Acres, Arnold Ziffel returned to his home state of Indiana where he got into politics and served 3 terms in the 1980s as the Republican Congressman from the 12th district.

OK - I made that one up.

Corbin Bernsen also hosts the game show How Much Is Enough? on GSN.

Pam Dawber has seemed to have faded from view after My Sister Sam was cancelled in 1988. She still is married to Mark Harmon as far as I know.

XUXA, I remember her show when it was syndicated in the United States for a season in 1994 after her children's show in Mexico was a huge hit and the syndicators in the United States wanted her to do her show for the America audience without success. I heard that after her show in the United States was cancelled, she went back to Mexico and revived her children's show there. But I don't know what she is doing now other that she is another person who has faded from view.

Erin Moran several years ago made some claim about how badly she was treated on the set of Happy Days.

True or not I don't know but she must not have been treated too badly since Erin did appear in the Happy Days retro special not long afterward.

Xuxa was from Brazil. She had a bit of a "past" there before her kid show hosting days. When stateside sponsors caught wind of it,the show was dropped like a rock.

It's a little known fact that Babe is the great-grandson of Arnold Ziffle and Petunia Pig.

Then I've also heard that Arnold really let himself go and gained a lot of weight after Green Acres ended.

I heard Arnold was not well liked by the other cast members. They said he was too much of a ham!

There actually was a rumor that when Green Acres ended that the cast and crew had a barbecue with Arnold as the guest of honor, if you know what I mean. :D That was debunked on TV Land's Myths and Legends though. ::)

Arnold did get a ticket while driving in Santa Monica. The sign said No Porking.

Arnold Ziffels last role was said to be in "Breakfast at Denny's" ;D

Thought of some TV names you don't hear about anymore...

Karen Valentine Room 222

Jay Johnson Soap

Susan Richardson Eight is Enough

I'd list more, but I've forgotten them. :)
Karen Valentine was doing a infomercial several years ago for Time-Life on a series of late '60's and early '70's Pop Music. She was co-hosting that infomercial with Bobby Sherman, iirc.

Jay Johnson made an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman about a year ago during one of Dave's Ventrilogists Week along with Jeff Dunham and Willie Tyler and Lester. I think he is still performing in Casinos in Vegas, Atlantic City, Reno and across the country.

The National Enquirer use to cover Susan Richardson like she was the MAIN star of "Eight Is Enough" instead of just one of the many co-stars. Even after EIE went off the air, the major tabloids, like the Enquirer, Star, Globe, etc. still cover her career like she was MAJOR TELEVISION and MOVIE STAR even though she hardly appeared on anything after EIE was cancelled.

The cast of Alice !!!!

Linda Lavin and Polly Holiday both still acts and the actress who played Joliene was in a few movies recently but whatever became of Vera ( Beth Howland ). Her husband Elliot? Tommy?

Vic Tayback ( Mel ) died in 1990. A few years back the now defunct American Bear magazine ( a gay porn mag ) for some reason unearthed an old pic of Tayback from the 80s..attending a gay-bear party in Columbus, Ohio.
Polly Holiday has appeared in quite a few movies and television shows since Flo was cancelled. She was in "Mrs. Doubtfire" and I recently saw her on several movies and television shows on cable, but most people wouldn't reconize her because she doesn't wear that red wig or speak in that FAKE SOUTHERN ACCENT that she did on both "Alice" and "Flo".

Thank you, jwk1979! I noticed the same thing back then. I always wondered why with all the people on Eight is Enough who got more face time than her, why was Susan Richardson all over the tabloids?

The answer, pure and simple, all these years later, is that Susan Richardson was what we came to call a publicity whore. Enquirer Editor-in-Chief Mike Walker explained on his radio show that for about as long as there's been tabloids, some actors have made secret deals with them for bits and pieces here and there, even with unflattering stories. They were so afraid of oblivion, they would do this to keep their names circulating.

Susan Richardson, for whatever reasons, was desparate to be a major star. One story I've heard about her several times was that at red light traffic stops, she would get out of her car (a Corvette), and offer surrounding drivers and passengers her autograph.

Living in L.A., and knowing several actors that you may have actually heard of, I know this: Just about anyone entering acting with the goal of being a star is headed for disaster. You become an actor to act, not to become some kind of symbol. Ms. Richardson is a prime example of this lesson.

There is an Eight is Enough profile of E! Entertainment's E! True Hollywood Story. On that program, it's mentioned that the staff and crew of 8IE enjoyed working on that show except for 2 people that they considered butt pains: Adam Rich & Susan Richardson. According to THS, they were very unpopular on the set.

I may not have this 100% correct, but at last report, Ms. Richardson was working as a caregiver at some type of rehab facility in rural Pennsylvania. She had horrible luck in her career, romance, finance, and substance abuse, and at one point, her reputation got so bad that she couldn't get hired.

In that E! THS episode, she admitted that she had some bad problems and threw away a small fortune.

Hopefully, she's learned from her mistakes, like we hope for anybody, and I wish the best for her, whether she tries to revive her acting career or not.

Randolph Mantooth only appeared on One Life To Live once. He was a soap regular on the long running ABC soap Loving as CIA AGENT Turned cop Alex Masters. When Loving was revamped he went to the soap The City where he played the same character but now he was a pi. Mitch Vogel of Bonanza died years ago in a motorcycle wreck.

According to IMDB and several Bonanza-related websites, Vogel is very much alive and lives in Southern California with his wife of 23 years and their two daughters.

I'm so embarrassed. I almost posted Polly Holiday had died. I could swear I read she had died (and Linda Lavin, who drove her from the show because she was too popular with the audience, was still alive - God has a bad aim) but apparently Polly is still quite alive. I knew about Mel assuming room temperature. Goog thing to google before posting when in doubt.

In the reunion show, George marries Florence and Mr Bentley from next door moves in as the housekeeper so he isn't sent back to England. ;D
