Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2

If I already get ESPN as part of my basic package, why would I pay extra for Fox Sports 1?

For content that ESPN doesn't necessarily have? It doesn't help your cause to equate the two as interchangeable.

I don't have a "cause". What I'm saying is that Fox is billing this as an ESPN competitor, when the reality is, that simply isn't true. If I'm JUST looking for sports, or JUST looking for sporting news, I'm not likely to find it on Fox Sports 1, because I don't have that as part of my basic, or even digital, package. I must pay $5 per month extra for it, and a handful of other low-rated sports channels. Yes, if I'm looking for specific content, then I have no choice but to add this channel to my package, but I'm unlikely to "stumble" on this channel when flipping through sports channels, and I can already get my sporting news fix through ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN News for no extra charge on my cable bill.

Why do you assume Fox isn't working on getting Fox Sports 1 & 2 placed in the same packages as ESPN and the regional sports networks?

Fox seems to be going whole hog on this new sports venture, unlike CBS Sports and NBC Sports, so I would expect most folks will have access to at least Fox Sports 1 by the time it launches.

I guess I did sort of make the assumption that carriage wouldn't be widened, mostly because of the 90 million homes comment. But, upon further research, I see that ESPN is only in 98 million homes. If Fox can launch this in 90 million homes, on a basic package, I think they may actually have something here.

Aside from the increase on my cable bill, I'm looking forward to the real national level competition, something ESPN hasn't had yet. I know it can be argued that NBC and CBS Sports are national competitors, but I think limited carriage stops them from being considered a threat to ESPN, along with a lack of any "hot" sports. NHL, while it has appeal, doesn't have the same reach as say MLB, or NFL Football.

I'm a big sports fan. But the thing I hate about all these sports networks is they are so watered down. I don't need 10 networks showing analysis and highlight shows all day, or "classic" games. I want to watch live sporting events. Out of the entire MLB season they are only showing 26 games? That is pathetic. There are up to 15 games per day over the course of 6 months and that's all they can get the rights too? I just don't see anything to get excited about with FS1.

I don't know any more than you guys, but I'm thinking Fox Sports 1 is going to be heavily tied in with Fox's regional sports networks. For folks that don't have access to FS1 upon launch I expect much of the (non-live sports) programming to be replayed on the RSNs at least until FS1 makes an impact. I also expect Fox to seek channel location for Fox Sports 1&2 adjacent to the regional sports network(s).

TSN "SportsCentre" anchors Jay Onrait and Dan O'Toole are "leaving their network next month for Fox Sports 1," where they will be "a major part of a three-hour Fox Sports Live program that will air nightly" from 11:00pm-2:00am ET, according to Richard Deitsch of SI.com. "Fox Sports Live" is expected to "have more than a dozen regulars, including anchors, update people and a rotating cast of former athletes/analysts."

Sportsnation keeps will need 3 Female Host.

Know get Steiner/Gary Miller/Dan Pollard/Keith O. and so on then you can complete with Sportscenter because Bell and so on is a start.

They have to protect the regional sports networks and the Extra Innings package.

Via Fang's Bites:

Today marks the start of the 100-day countdown to the historic launch of FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports’ new national multi-sport network, and much has been accomplished since its official unveiling just over two months ago. The channel’s launch schedule is set, key talent and production hires have been made, and programs have been developed. The Day 1 schedule and initial programming highlights are presented here, while the latest information on talent and programming developments are being announced in separate releases bundled and issued today to mark the milestone.

“We’ve been working for months now, but a lot has come together in the time since we officially unveiled our plans for the launch of FOX Sports 1 in March,” said Eric Shanks, FOX Sports’ Co- President and COO. “The programming schedule has been solidified, and we really come out of the gate incredibly strong from Day 1.”

Mentions NASCAR, UFC and the UEFA Champions League/CONCACAF Champions League in the press release.

I'm sure that with the loss of the EPL, Fox Soccer no longer has a purpose. I'm sure, however, that they'll keep the FA Cup. And I'm sure that Fox Deportes will find other soccer programming from Europe and Latin America. They might even add the J-League from Japan and the K-League from Korea.

I believe Fox Soccer Channel is leaving the air in September and being replaced by FXX, but I don't think any official statement has been made to that effect.

Fox is getting aggressive about this though. My latest bill from Comcast states that Speed will be moving from the Sports & Entertainment Package to Digital Starter effective sometime in June.

...and then, there's The World Cup - in 2018. Nothing like thinking ahead.

In March, Fox Sports said it would debut Fox Sports 1 on Aug. 17. At the time, the company downplayed talk that it had plans for a second national service -- Fox Sports 2 -- as well.

But now insiders say Fox Sports 2 will launch around the same time and perhaps even the same day as Fox Sports 1. The new channel will take the place of Fuel TV, a News Corp.-owned network that currently carries a heavy load of Ultimate Fighting Championship programming.

While Fox Sports 1 is getting a big marketing push behind it, Fox Sports 2 will have a much softer launch. It is unclear what sports will be on the new channel initially besides mixed martial arts. Fox Sports 1 already has an impressive lineup for a start-up that includes NASCAR, college football and basketball, with regular-season and postseason Major League Baseball coming in 2014.

Don't have a clue what will happen with Fox Sports 2. The UFC has already announced all first run programs from FX and Fuel will move to Fox Sports 1. The only UFC English programming that will remain on another station goes to the Fox OTA mothership. Could Fuel go back to programming multiple hours of "extreme sports" and a bunch of reruns? Maybe pick up some cast off Speed programs?

Those last 2 items could be what comprises the bulk of Fox Sports 2, plus stuff from Fox Soccer Plus, additional college sports broadcasts, and some stuff you only see on FSN.

Fox Soccer Plus is the channel that is supposed to become FX2?
No, Fox Soccer is going to be converted to FXX. I think FSMG moves most of FSP's content to Fox Sports 2 when it launches out of Fuel.
