Fox Sports Sends Stephen A. Smith Packing

Thank God the Lovely Deb Carson no longer has to endure the Facial Humiliation of Steven A Smith Slobbering all over her. Prancing around like the ultimate stud. I truly felt sorry for her.

What I find most humorous about this decision is how much FSR was behind Stephen A. Smith and how confident they were that this show would get them that glorious New York City affiliate clearance, only to ditch the show so quickly.

If that was Martin's reasoning for hiring SAS, then that's exhibiting an alarming level of stupidity.

The ONLY way FSR will get a NYC clearance is for Clear Channel to buy an AM station in the market and convert it to sports/talk. And that station will never be able to compete against WFAN and WEPN. Aside from that, they will never ever ever ever ever get an NYC clearance.

Quite frankly, New York is too regionalize for any national sports talk show or network to really have a chance there. Most of WEPN shows are local rather than the national ESPN programs except for Mike and Mike and late night time slots. New York City doesn't really care much about college football, which is huge in other parts of the country.

That said, I much rather have Stephen A. than Boomer and Carton in the Morning on WFAN. Carton really is a "professional creep" as someone once described him.

I like Zack and Jack on the weekends. Maybe they will do good as a fullt time morning show. I think their show will appeal more to middle America (the people who do tend to listen to Fox media) more than Stephen A. did.

I would take Stephen A. any day over the Loose Cannons and PMS.

Not going to miss SAS at all. He was solid on pro hoops, but that was about it. Can't recall the last time I even tuned his show on. Not saying the guy doesn't have talent, but he was a bad fit for morning radio. SAS might be better off going after a show on the Sirius NBA channel. In any case, looks like he will have more time to eat his beloved cheese doodles.

The link in the post says Stephen A. will still be working for Fox as a roving basketball analysis.

If they're going to buy an AM station in New York, it's going to be a 50,000-watt blowtorch, and it's going to be a news/talk station to house their conservative talk trifecta of Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity.

And considering how CC couldn't make sports talk work in Syracuse, NY, I don't think they will laying the groundwork for a third sports station in New York City anytime soon.

As for Zack and Jack... I don't know... Sounds a bit too close to "Mike and Mike," if you think about it...

LOL @ anyone on this thread acting like Zack and Jack is a good replacement. They are a BOREFEST. I am in Central PA and they have been on here in place of SAS for the last several months. they put me to sleep. It is an awful show. SAS is a joke but at least he is ENTERTAINING (albeit in a horrible way)..........I use to listen just to see how big of an idiot he was each day. Zack and Jack do NOTHING to entertain an audience. It is mind boggling that FSR could think these 2 boring people could appeal to anyone. just another, in a string of horrible programming decisions.

Anyone who actually supported Lebron's decision to leave Cleveland deserves to lose their job. (Lookin' at you, Chris Broussard.)

Beyond that, Screaming A. Smith was way too close to players. I hate "journalists" who are all chummy with athletes instead of maintaining an objectifiable distance from them. His defenses of Iverson the last three years have been hilarious.

No such thing. NBA is the weak link in the Sirius XM sports lineup, with only a partial lineup of games aired most nights and no dedicated talk channel.

I was never a real fan of SAS so I rarely listened when it first aired here in the Cincy market. The show began with another lady ( I forget her name now) and it too frequently veered way left of sports and sometimes was just plain weird. Once she left I started listening more often and actually had really came to enjoy the show and looked forward to listening to it on the way to work during drive time. I have listened to the Z&J show a few times and so far I hear nothing unique, sounds more like a local show. Are you telling me that the lead in for two of the best radio shows ever (DP and Rome) is going to permanently be Z&J? Come on now. There were certainly some missteps along the way on the SAS show but I really liked the format, especially when the whole crew got involved. The music fade ins/outs were very well done. I will miss the show but I guess I am stuck with these guys, I can't do Mike and Mike just not my cup of tea.

Strange that Fox is still calling it the Stephen A. Smith Show in their promos when Zack and Jack have already been on the air for a couple of days.

For what it's worth, Z&J are supposed to take over for SAS (IIRC) on Monday. It might officially still be his show, even without him, though it'd be kinda silly if Z&J are actually on right now.

Quite frankly Stephen A is terrible!
Just absolutely terrible and his manner of speaking where he emphasizes over and over again is irritating and not pleasant to listen to the least bit.
Go watch the videos on Youtube of the guys heckling him at the NBA draft saying "I'm Stephen A Smith!..everything I say is important!" and that's right on the money!
He was fired from the paper in Philly because he wasn't sourcing his information and printing half truths plus add in that he was emailing columns on his smartphone - oh yeah i'm sure that went well, and you see why anyone in sports media would send him packing.
