Remember, it is an AM. Today, many AMs have transmitter site land that is worth more than the station itself.

if they had a translator built out with good coverage.. and HAD income, they could get more then $1 mil....

I believe that the land sale was part of a refinancing and restructuring long ago, and so the money was committed to that transaction. The current reductions in staff have to do with the huge reduction in revenue due to the Coronavirus.

That money, as with the funds from all property sold must go to the lenders per the bankruptcy agreement... at least that is the way I read the public documents which are in extreme legalese and very detailed.

And there is a Franken in Beaumont TX, KIPS..BUT ITS NOT licensed as an analog. Its been a LD since it was licensed years ago. The current operator got the FCC to issue a STA to operate analog after Hurricanes Rita and Ike blew thru. But a year later when they went to renew the STA, the FCC realized they fubared and revoked the STA..but the station remains on as a Spanish FM...oh well

The article is old, from July of last year. Maybe they were confident of a grandfather clause being added to the original order. Maybe they thought they could grease a few FCC palms and get an exception. Anything is possible. I'd like to know how those guys are thinking now.
 
What's the bigger picture behind the FCC's move? I mean, it's not like there appears to be a drastic need for more OTA TV channels, or more OTA TV stations going up, especially in big cities like Chicago, where most TV is delivered via cable. i think the percentage of TV watching OTA is lower than radio listening via the AM band.

Cutting the cord has increased due to riding cable and sat prices..this delay was caused by the repack but was planned back in 2015/16.
