They are not taking over the Ticket, no way, no how. That line up sucks from top to bottom and the Ticket has hosts that have been there for 15 years and listeners who have been with them just as long. You are talking crazy talk!
I am going on record here, right now, today...against the grain of the cool frat boys Cool that The shit will hit the fan before new years, and it will overtake the ticket in ***
That's a sucker bet, and any serious radio pro knows it. Especially with the Fan getting people tuning in just for the Cowboys games, they may well get more cume than the Ticket. But since ratings equal Cume PLUS tsl, it doesn't really matter if the Fan has more people tuning in that KTCK does, if the Ticket can keep their TSL numbers up. I haven't looked at them lately, but IIRC, the Ticket has RIDICULOUS TSL numbers.metroneck said:you're caught up in the romance of the ticket, the 'club' if you will. The P1. That's great, just like the RMS show, had it's cult members. We're talking 100kW FM flame thrower that draws like a magnet. Even if the ticket is 'better', Fan will take it bc of the 100kW/Cowboys and more tuned to the common man. The masses are not as 'cool' as the P1, everyone doesnt 'get it', the masses were not in a fraternity, hell most didn't attend college for that matter. If we are talking raw ***, then we are talking all levels of cool and uncool peeps. BMW is a cooler car than a Ford, but Ford has a hell of alot more ***. It's not crazy talk, just business and numbers. but money fixes problems, and CBS has money.
tomficker said:I understand the logic in thinking that everything could break right for the Fan and that their numbers could increase significantly. In terms of ratings though, the only serious (non spanish) ratings surge this market has seen in the last decade was the initial 99.5 The Wolf resurrection from K-Plex. There's been plenty of declines from various signals but that's about the only major upswing we've seen. But...............
Here's the problem. The people initially behind 105.3 the fan are apparently a bunch of worthless idiots. Why would anyone launch a sports talk station in the second week of December? Oh wait, maybe they didn't since they were slow rolling out the format beginning last July..first Ben and skin..then "live talk and sports" (despite only having Nascar and westwood one)...all of it done in a wink wink..sports talk is coming style. Ok..so then why didn't you just f'n launch the sports talk in August or September? What is the point of going to sports 2 weeks before the Cowboys season ends and now practically blowing up your entire lineup before we even get to the following training camp? This is some of the most obnoxious and least thought out decision making that anyone could conceive. Unless of course it was supposed to be linked into stealing one or more talents away from The Ticket and their contract situations coincided with the end of 2008? Either way, why would you change formats on a hunch at arguably one of the worst times of the year for sports talk?
