Gavin to go to Houston!!!

They are not taking over the Ticket, no way, no how. That line up sucks from top to bottom and the Ticket has hosts that have been there for 15 years and listeners who have been with them just as long. You are talking crazy talk!

you're caught up in the romance of the ticket, the 'club' if you will. The P1. That's great, just like the RMS show, had it's cult members. We're talking 100kW FM flame thrower that draws like a magnet. Even if the ticket is 'better', Fan will take it bc of the 100kW/Cowboys and more tuned to the common man. The masses are not as 'cool' as the P1, everyone doesnt 'get it', the masses were not in a fraternity, hell most didn't attend college for that matter. If we are talking raw ***, then we are talking all levels of cool and uncool peeps. BMW is a cooler car than a Ford, but Ford has a hell of alot more ***. It's not crazy talk, just business and numbers. I am going on record here, right now, today...against the grain of the cool frat boys 8) that The shit will hit the fan before new years, and it will overtake the ticket in ***.

I am certainly no "radio guy", metroneck, so I have zero experience to judge your statement on, but I
know I have enough common sense to shake out my boots before I put them on (I "cleaned up" the
analogy for all you sensitive folks) so I just had to laugh at your prediction.
Let's see, you predict The Fan will overtake The Ticket in ratings before the end of the year. Fantastic!

I LOVE it when people walk out on a very thin limb. ;D

That's a sucker bet, and any serious radio pro knows it. Especially with the Fan getting people tuning in just for the Cowboys games, they may well get more cume than the Ticket. But since ratings equal Cume PLUS tsl, it doesn't really matter if the Fan has more people tuning in that KTCK does, if the Ticket can keep their TSL numbers up. I haven't looked at them lately, but IIRC, the Ticket has RIDICULOUS TSL numbers.

For example, KESN has more cume than the Ticket, but KTCK keeps their listeners more entertained, or the listeners feel more loyalty (or whatever it is) that keeps them aroound for longer. Whic leads KTCK to generally double ESPN's ratings. Go look up Bary Horn's or Richie Whitt's columns on the actual numbers-

And it's funny- if the 100KW flamethrower makes KRLD-FM such a no-brainer, why did they just fire 2 of their 4 shows, and split up the 3rd show (the one doing worse in the ratings than the (Scott and Hill) show they fired...That 'magnet' has been on for 7-8 months and it's not doing all that well...I've seen and heard the figure "20th in their demo" (M25-54) thrown around. Want to discuss those numbers?

This might be a little off topic, but who's "The Face" of 105.3 The Fan? You know, every station has their "number one guy". Who is that for The Fan?? They don't seem to have a "franchise quarterback" to build their team around, like EVERY other station does. Without that, they're kinda screwed, right??

I understand the logic in thinking that everything could break right for the Fan and that their numbers could increase significantly. In terms of ratings though, the only serious (non spanish) ratings surge this market has seen in the last decade was the initial 99.5 The Wolf resurrection from K-Plex. There's been plenty of declines from various signals but that's about the only major upswing we've seen. But...............

Here's the problem. The people initially behind 105.3 the fan are apparently a bunch of worthless idiots. Why would anyone launch a sports talk station in the second week of December? Oh wait, maybe they didn't since they were slow rolling out the format beginning last July..first Ben and skin..then "live talk and sports" (despite only having Nascar and westwood one)...all of it done in a wink wink..sports talk is coming style. Ok..so then why didn't you just f'n launch the sports talk in August or September? What is the point of going to sports 2 weeks before the Cowboys season ends and now practically blowing up your entire lineup before we even get to the following training camp? This is some of the most obnoxious and least thought out decision making that anyone could conceive. Unless of course it was supposed to be linked into stealing one or more talents away from The Ticket and their contract situations coincided with the end of 2008? Either way, why would you change formats on a hunch at arguably one of the worst times of the year for sports talk?

Good banter here men. I cannot argue the slop factor here. However, rich kids get bailed out of jail quicker than poor ones. CBS is a rich kid, they got drunk, they got pulled over, even found some coke in the glovebox BUT daddy is going to fix it....it's going to cost his ass...but money fixes problems, and CBS has money. They are hell bent on this nation wide flip from LIVE FM to FAN et al. They'll get it done, and even if they foul up yet again, they'll keep writing checks till it happens. When they send the heavy weight managers in, start firing 1mm a year hosts still in contract (Lykis, Russ, Corrolla) they have a bigger vision in mind. See past the trees, and think like your real real rich, then you'll see the goggles I am forcasting from. Maybe I'm real wrong, but my bet was largest *** by year end. I wish this was also a sports betting site, then I'd put a 100 bones paypal up against my prediction.

I still cant believe they sent lykis and corrolla to the house...with pay...RMS aint a pimple on the ass of that paycheck would be my guess, Tom was nationally syndicated for god sakes

Gavin Spittle Fan Club has 30 friends......maybe they will move to Houston.

How does someone so popular (NOT) get promoted for having the personality of a reptile?

Dallas' gain is Houston's loss....and the competition will ove it. And by the way,

he was NO miracle worker in Vegas either. What a career move for a guy that
left Cape Cod in 1999 as his stepping stone to CBS/Las Vegas. (Gavin Spittle left
Cape Cod's WXTK (95.1 West Yarmouth)/WWKJ (101.1 Mashpee)
for the gig as program director of talk KXNT (840 North Las Vegas.)

Wow! What a country and isn't radio fabulous? NOT!

Wreck a station and get promoted!

More garbage in....and TONS of garbage out!!!!!!!!

Weekdays 5a-7p, I'd still put my money on the Ticket, even on AM and on a weak signal. (Why don't they at least move to 570?). They have the best talent, period, especially with those strong bookends in morning and afternoon drive. Every market is unique. Some PDs look like geniuses in in certain markets but look like dunces when they try to (unsuccessfully)duplicate the success elsewhere. Maybe it's the market. Dallas is a tough nut to crack in any radio format. Or maybe they weren't that good to begin with, but got lucky or didn't have any competition. My question is, as bad as Cumulus is, the Fan couldn't have pried the Musers or the Hardline away from the Ticket?

Amen, bro... It's all a big chess game and those who are the talent are just the pawns. I'm the fat cats have got something in the pipeline that would involve "stealing" some one. That's just my suspicion.

Spitttle leaving town is about the best thing that could happen at CBS!

metroneck,

Please check your spelling. The word you are looking for is "cume", not "***". The latter defines, well.... you know. :p
