GMAZ Weekend Weather Forecasters

Ch.3/5 has pretty much become an embarrassment to local news reporting in Phoenix.
It's hit or miss. They have some really good people. But the newscasts can be a mixed bag of decent journalism and cringey moments. Not sure they really needed to spend about half of a 30 minute 10pm newscast talking about Kevin Durant. Especially when they have a sports show immediately following the newscast!

Sorry to hear this. I thought she was a solid reporter.
I wonder if she found another gig, and was only considered a part-timer/contractor at Gray. Maybe like deja vu Lauren Rainson all over again.

I honestly don't understand why 3/5 can't seem to keep reporters more than 6 months. It seems that they are intentionally hiring freelance reporters and then letting them go after 6 months or a year. After all, Phoenix is a "big" market so it seems that reporters might want to stay awhile.

The part-timer/contractor angle is interesting. Why teach her weather if they were going to drop her? Maybe after 7 months she realized (blank) just wasn't for her? She was at her last TV station for 2 years and was well-liked.

Unfortunately, Phoenix is a big market that's still treated like a smaller one.

Cristiana Ramos updated her LinkedIn page. Put in a resume and reel. Mentioned that she jumped 134 markets from Beaumont, TX to Phoenix. Worked at 3TV/CBS5 for 6 months.
This is what she said about her time at AZ Family: "I got to learn in a market I was told I wasn't cut out for."
Yikes.
Ouch! She also said she's looking into Communications and PR careers. Hope she moves on to something bigger and better.

I was in Tucson for the week. When I'm out of town, I usually watch the ABC affiliate: KGUN. However I'm a big WWE fan and wanted to check out former wrestling announcer and current KVOA anchor Sean Mooney. Also I knew former AZ Family anchor Monica Garcia works on the NBC affiliate.

I was looking away but listening to their 6PM news. The reporter signed off "Cristiana Ramos." I glanced up and saw her. Checked her LinkedIn bio and she started with KVOA in June. Glad to see Cristiana landed on her feet. She also mentioned that she's going for her Broadcast Meteorology Certification at Mississippi State University.

Over the last two weekends (8/26 - 27 and 9/2 - 3) Kylee Cruz did GMAZ weekend weather, with the exception Saturday August 26 where April Warnecke came in. I wasn't a Paul Horton fan but he's very good in the mornings. However he has said on several occasions he's done AM weather for 15+ years and doesn't seem like he wants to go back. I believe Kylee is due in November so Gray Media needs to find a weather person as soon as possible.

I know Steven has transitioned to news reporter. However, he could temporarily do the weather while Kylee is on maternity leave. Steven has recently filled in for Holly on weather.

Sunday October 29: the First Alert department is depleted with vacation and illness. So Tess Rafols came in to do GMAZ weather.

Meteorologist Pete Mangione started Friday May 10th. Introduced as the new weekend morning Forecaster. According to LinkedIn he was hired about 2 weeks ago.

I'm surprised Pete is doing GMAZ. Holly Bock seemed to work well with Kylee Cruz and Whitney Clark. Since I moved to Phoenix, overwhelming majority of AZ Family weekend Forecasters have been female. Maybe Holly likes weeknights better? Also Steven Sarabia can go back to full time reporting.
