Greatest Endings In Rock and Roll

Bye Bye Baby Bye Bye - Janis Joplin WITH Big Brother & The Holding Company

Layla - Derek & The Dominoes (chirping birds)
My old AM top 40 back in the day used to play just the first half of "Layla." Did anyone else's station do that? Was it that way on the single?

Also, if you are going to play "Layla" (the whole thing, anyway, and not a single mix), you MUST let it play through until the bird chirps at the very end! I think that's a law written down somewhere! ;D

This thread has morphed into the weird and obscure and irrelevant. "Greatest Endings" to me means something memorable!!
Fade outs are a great ending?? Gimme Dat Ding? Gimme A Break.
LP cuts somehow don't correlate to this forum's title.
The birds chirping at the end of Layla, now that is more like it. I think, if I do say so myself, that the ends of Running Scared and Bridge Over Troubled Water are memorable, classic, and end with a climax. ;)
You should see the "intros" thread.

At any rate, as a d.j., I always liked the faders for the obvious reason: easier to backtime into the top-of-the-hour newscast. As a listener, I prefer definite finishes! (Sometimes, you've GOT to go to the album version to get that full finish!)

On "Keep on Dancin'" by the Gentrys, when it gets to that false finish near the end, that was to have been the end of the song, except that someone decided that the song was too short! So they repeated a verse! But the actual ending is as great as the false ending!

And the very abrupt ending on "I Want You (She's so Heavy)" by the Beatles is great, too, but if you aren't very familiar with the song, it seems like it drones on forever until it gets to the end! But after a couple of listenings, you know what to expect.

Okay, this is pretty self explanatory, somewhat of a follow up to Hornet69's thread, "Greatest Intros In Rock". How many songs have great endings, even if only a single note, for example:

Her Majesty - The Beatles

or a sound byte:
Piggies - The Beatles
Once heard a radio program which played "Her Majesty," complete with that missing final note!
