Greggo Hired at ESPN......

Isn't former Ticket PM now the overseer of all of ESPN radio, Bruce Gilbert?

If so he might be willing to give Greggo a shot.

That being said, Greggo can not lead a show. He absolutely will have to have someone else direct traffic.

No, Bruce Gilbert is the CEO of Red Zebra Broadcasting. Its is owned by Dan. Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins Football Club. Red Zebra is the broadcasting arm of the Redskins.

I think I would rather listen to Greggo than to 2 hrs of Recap of the Ticket Top 10 along with the Whip that is Chris House, followed by a pre recorded Dan Patrick. It's better than "Game Night" and actually brings some local programming into the market after dark.

I agree entirely. For what it's worth, and it may not be all that much, I think this show will absolutely dominate in it's timeslot. I'm not sure how this will impact the overall station ratings but I imagine the gap will be even closer with KTCK. The Ticket is essentially giving up in that daypart by running 2 hours best of followed by Dan Patrick on a 13 hour delay. It's always fun to hear Dan previewing a game that just ended ???. I hope the payday for the Dallas clearance is worth it to the Ticket.

edit..I mean dominate against the ticket in it's slot.

Greggo was on there last night and they said they were starting on Sept. 8th I think....

Ummm, Yeah it will be real important to dominate the all important 7 to 10 time slot!!????!!! give me a break that is radio grave yard...

Not for 12-18's, but definitely for any adult demos and double-dutch-definitely for sports stations. After all, in this day and age are you going to watch the action or listen to a game? The VAST majority of sports fans watch. Compare ratings and see how many people tune in to watch it on TV and and how many people tune into games on the radio. TV is vastly more popular.

Pulling some night numbers can make a difference in the overall ratings. See KRLD. When the Rangers were in the race they did OK (for KRLD.) Now that the Rangers are out of contention their numbers will fall because people will quit listening.

Right and can you imagine if ESPN overtakes the ticket in any of the major demos? I think that would be a significant radio event for this market. I think Greggo wouldn't have to worry too long about his 400k pay cut if that occurred. On a gap that small, one dominating night show could close it. Don't tell me about men 25-54..which they will also see an improvent in, this is a frontrunners town and I think winning the ratings battle and credibility battle that's posted in the morning news or star telegram (12+) is equally important when selling ads and remotes to local businesses...maybe not in national accounts. But.....remember there's mavericks basketball 2 or 3 nights a week beginning in a month..not sure how they are going to handle that.

Come on people... Having a show on at 7pm is not going to close the gap between The Ticket and ESPN.... The Ticket out draws them 2 to 1 and the Morning Drive and Afternoon drive are Crushing them. ESPN has beaten The ticket at night several times but it does not matter because nobody buys night time ad space... Also, nobody is going to pay Big dollars for a 7 to 10 show, not to mention that show is not going to be any good so it won't matter any way. Night time is for the young and they don't listen to sports talk...

It is a good feeler for ESPN. If he tanks, they don't really lose much. 7-10 p.m. is not a crucial time slot. There will be Mavs games that will keep him off the air half the time. They are competing against the Ticket top 10 and some recorded Dan Patrick. They will also get a little PR for it as well. It is a smart move on their part.

I do not feel sorry for anyone who was making half a million a year, co hosting on one of the best sports stations in the country. He had his shot and threw it away. Boo-hoo. Poor Greggo. Good for him he got a second chance but I don't see why anyone feels sorry for him. There are many people who will not even come close to the opportunity he has had.

I do not wishing failure on him, just pointing out my lack of sympathy. It is wonderful that he has come clean.

Not sure what your asking H, No I never worked that time slot, if that is what you mean...

does this ring a bell Isaidso?? you bitter about Greggo?

Whatever, I am tired of stations in this town thinking small market, this is a big market and deserves a big market style and quality, not some retired High school Coach that wants to play radio... The ticket is doing it the right way, bring in a big market guy to do a show... I use to listen to Mike Taylor in Dallas, really talented. He could use a co-host though, single man show gets tired.....

No, never did, If I had, things would be different there I can tell you that. Not sure being a fan of Mike Taylor's means I worked there. He WOULD be a better hire than Greggo, but he left because he wanted to, not because he had to, higher profile time slot.... BTW He is the number one sport talk host in SA. (So says ARB) Also, getting bitter over a wash-up, drug addict, liar would be silly don't you think? Hey Greggo tell us about playing in the Major Leagues!

I don't think you're Mike Taylor. I think you're Tom Gribble. ;) Although, if that's the case why all the message
board boners over Taylor's San Antonio arbitrons?

Plus..who is he beating for that number 1 spot? Aren't they the only sports station in town and yet just a 1 share across the board in 12plus. So is he during drivetime the number one show in town where there's no other competition??? Big deal. I bet at the special olympics everyone gets a medal too!

Not that it matters...But he has a 3.5, beat WOAI and the ESPN station there. In his time slot... The rest of the station sucks, 1.0 is only because of his numbers. I was sorry to see him go, only show at 103.3 I could listen to.

First time long time, so here we go.

I dont think you are Mike...But I do think you worked at ESPN and got fired and were probably chums with Mr. Taylor. Thats why you seem obsessed with things that go on at ESPN without you and his show in SA. Its seems to be the M-O of people on this board that when they get "let go" or "quit" they are obsessed how terrible the station is without them. The station didnt want/need you any longer, so let it go and move on. If you are a long time radio guy, then this probably has happened a number of times.

Also, I find it funny that no one seems to mention that ESPN has MORE listeners than the Ticket, they just don't have the TSL that the Ticket has. Check the cume in the target demo and and you will see. I bet when the PPM ratings come out at the end of the year, we will see alot of the TSL for RMS, Hardline etc... will come back to reality. I have heard from more than a few people (ok, well sales people) at "the mothership" they are afraid of PPM and dont want to change. They have the attitude "if it aint broke, dont fix it". I have a feeling the playing field, so to speak, is about to be leveled quite a bit. But then again, when people dont get the ratings they think they should, there will always be an excuse why.
