Greggo Hired at ESPN......

Jack, excellent retort and I cannot agree more. ESPN is more of a "Sports" station for us folks who like to talk game theory, trades and the opinions that come along with them. Why im not a bigger fan of the little ticket is simple: They Lost Focus. They became more about lifestyle,Whats on their TIVO, Gay/Not Gay and (in the hardlines case) more concerned with their Dallas "Uptown" scene. I listen to ESPN for two reasons:

A) They have interesting dicussion on sports and sports-related issues
B) They run the Mavs Games

In alot of ways, you can blame the Tickets issues on one person and his cadre: Corby Davidson. Before he showed up, the station was pretty much a blue-collar listen, now it takes the appearance of a white collar "whos who" scene, where you hear them brag about their side projects (Petty/Pepper Theft) or how much they drank at The Barley House than hearing them talk about the sport.

Im the exact opposite.
Hearing all the hard core sports talk is boring to me. I love the way The Ticket intermingles sports and lifestyle talk. But we have sports stations for both types of listeners. Both are making money, so why can't we just all get along.

Well, wrong again mister first time long time... Now that you have defended YOUR station, report the facts... ESPN has a few times had a higher cume, But it did not the last book. The Ticket had a higher cume, and CRUSHED ESPN in all of the day parts in the target demo

Men 25-54
Ticket ESPN
6 to 10- 10.1 4.3
10 to 3- 8.9 2.7
3 to 7- 10.6 5.3

So what this really tells you, despite your on your knees hope that the PPM will save you, People like me tune in and don't like what they HEAR. and quickly tune out... No ax to grind, just DON"T think it is good radio. PS: I never brought Mike Taylor up, someone else did. He was/is a good host and I liked his show.

The thing to look at is WHEN does ESPN beat KTCK in cume. Isn't it usually during mavericks season? If so, isn't the most likely explanation is that they're getting people tuning in for the games, but not necessarily for the rest of the rigamarole?

And let's not forget, it doesn't really matter if ESPN has "more" listeners. Ratings are made up of cume + TSL. How many people you have listening, and how long those people stick around.

So the Ticket has less listeners, but they stick around longer. Apparently they stick around so long that KTCK can double, if not triple ESPN's ratings in their target demos.

OK, it all comes together now...sorry, you are not Mike are you and for that I apologize.
Everything OK now former producer Randy?
Yes ESPN and Ticket are both excellent and very solid stations.
We are lucky to be in a market with two great stations.

Um? Who is Randy? Look dude, who I am doesn't matter... What does that have to do with anything? Who are you? Do you have a job in the business that you are trying to protect? I do, and it is not at ESPN, or the Ticket, I am however a sports talk fan. Opinion is opinion, sorry that mine bothers you, don't like it, change the station.

I guess an in house look at the Ticket/ESPN "style" would be to compare the numbers for Norm vs the rest of the Ticket staff. I would have thought when KLIF dropped their sports coverage that Norm would have ended up at ESPN and Wally Lynn would go to the Ticket. I have listened to Norm since his days at WBAP and enjoy what he does. He is the butt of too many jokes at KTCK but he seems not to care. I used to listen to Galloway when he was at WBAP but just can't stomach him or Hanson at ESPN.

Just one common listeners opinion. ;D

I think there's any arguing the fact that ESPN's numbers have been on the rise for the last 12-18 months and I think by adding Greggo at night they're overall market share will continue to improve. Rather then argue the point at whether or not they will overcome the Ticket or even pull any listeners from KTCK, it is interesting that we are on the cusp of having two sports stations in the top 15 and potentially--at least during the fall book--have a shot at two sports top 10 stations at the same time. I don't think there's any other market where sports talk is as competitive. There's definitely cities like Boston and New York where one station out performs either of these two but, I don't believe any of them have a quality competitor like in Dallas-Fort Worth. ESPN New York has spent a bunch of money for minimal results.

Tonight's the night!!!.....anyone else excited? Honestly, I probably will only hear the show once in a while since I'm rarely in the car at that time other then maybe on Fridays' but I like knowing it is out there. I will cut away from Monday night football tonight and tune in for an hour or so.

Yep, can't wait for Lies, drugs, and Gun talk... Woo Hoo The Rehab comes to radio.

Unless Greg is going to be involved in the Mavericks' pre & post game shows, when the NBA season starts his show will only be on a couple of nights a week.

My thing is this. I think Doug Gottlieb is just brutal on ESPN Radio. I also can't stand the Ticket top Ten and taped Dan Patrick..which is only slightly worse then live Dan Patrick...I guess I'm just hoping for the best and we'll see/hear how it shakes out.

Oh look, it's Mr. Negative. Your life must be miserable.

Matter of fact it is, because I can't get any "Great Sports talk" in a top 5 market!!!!! All I get is Boob and Drunk talk at the ticket, and Felons, and addicts at ESPN....Will somebody do Real, Local, Quality, SPORTS TALK.....

Lets see, the Ticket won the Marconi last year as the Best Sports Talk Station in the nation and ESPN is nominated this year as the best station.
Is someone bitter? I got it...bring back Mike Taylor! He is killing them in SA, the radio capital of the Universe. Woo Hoo!
