old hambonita is an addict/liar, but that Gavin Spittle has the level of incompetency that we all assumed..
Disagree, we're getting Whitt's Spin on Spittle. Between Richie/Greggo's blog lines, I see a pro in Spittle here, handling this crisis as exactly that. Trying to get the airplane safely on the ground without alarming the passengers that the main engine is on fire, even though they see and smell the smoke. He got her down safe, swapped out the engine with a backup spare, got her back flying the schedule until the permanent FAA approved/tagged replacement part arrived &installed.
The passengers yelled and moaned in all the chaos, people wrote about how their lives were endangered, bumps/bruises, lawsuits threatened, but no civilian casualties, and all arrived at their destination. Albeit delayed, the plane safely delivered the passengers.
The pilot here (Spittle) is more a hero than an imbecile. The imbecile is the one that put Greg Williams on major broadcast air knowing he was a faulty part, knowing the fire would catch. That imbecile is Tom Bigby, he installed that salvage part on a commercial airliner. When called upon by the company to pilot his old, plane that's now on fire, when no one else could/would, he risked his comfortable life to do it.
The goal here by CBS was to "save the format". Flushing the format would be the easy fix, but they have a bigger picture in mind, and uninterested in letting a couple of spares get in their way. (Yes Whitt and Williams are salvage spares based off their ratings) I think Gavin is due a round of applause as a professional.
Actually, now that I'm working this out in my own mind, it makes more sense on the Rhyner rumors. If he does retire from Cumulus's, CBS probably will overpay him to come over after non compete, to finally give them the Real Deal. Finally giving them the format they've been trying so hard to achieve, but daddy Rhynes created.
