OC Radio Geek said about tomorrow's KMET tribute on KSWD that he'll certainly enjoy the jocks (the old KMET jocks including current KSWD jock Jeff Gonzer). That reminded me to give a shout out of my appreciation for all the radio jocks out there former and current. 8)
This morning I have been listening to Legato Cafe.net (Internet only AAA station) and I noticed, though I love most of the playlist, that the abscence of any jocks on this "station" makes it somewhat less than a fully satisfying experience. They do have some "jocks" on Saturday now. And anyone familiar with Radio Paradise knows that Bill Goldsmith (co-owner with his wife) is the only "jock" heard there though voice tracked for the most part.
So I found myself switching back to one of my many alternate stations I "tune" in to.... WXPK 107.1 The Peak White Plains, NY. Jimmy Fink is on as he is most weekdays noon-4 pm (PDT). The other jocks I have heard on WXPK are also very much worth hearing. Having a knowledgable and experienced "DJ" as part of the listening experience is definitely a requisite for enjoyment. Not all jocks can do the Adult Alternative format well. Most of the jocks on The Sound are also decent though maybe more suitable for AAA than classic rock IMO. There are other AAA over the air stations which have a great playlist but fall short when it comes to their DJs.
Stations like JACK and JILL-FM sound too antiseptic without someone at the mic.
So props to all the air talent professionals out there in radioland. Many of you are the Cream of the Crop!!
