Hardened Hearts & Howie

Corporations these days are happy to push successful regional hosts out the door.
They will survive because there is hardly any competition. A clever and creative jock or host better be ready for "yes Sir, No Sir, would you like some coffee, Sir?" because radio is no longer the radio business, it is just a business. Little creativity, lots of shareholders to take care of. Why is Matty in The Morning still on and the Big Mattress on the internet? All due respect to Loren & Wally but they are not nearly as legendary as Charles and he could always find something funny to bring the numbers up if they started leveling off. Karlson & McKenzie instead of Charles? All those listening to K & M raise their hands...not all at once now...

This is NOT an endorsement of Carr; it's just a statement of the reality that is radio 2007. The Corporation is bigger than the on-air talent and the audience means nothing unless a strong campaign made to the advertisers can get their attention.
Otherwise, replace Ted Knight's laugh with Arnold saying "Hasta la vista, baybee...
or better still, play Arnold right after Ted

Howie's bosses at the Herald told him to write a Halloween column, so he did. In that case it was
an easy column to do.

I have no idea if Howie's bosses at the Herald told him to write a Halloween column and neither do you. One thing I am sure of is that they weren't expecting a rehash of some old photos and text without any originality, cleverness, or wit. My main point was that your pal Maloney thought that two talk hosts doing Halloween segments was a threat to the Republic, but Howie wasting a full page on crap was just nifty. Believe it or not, but you can probably disagree with the prevailing wisdom at SaveWRKO and still not lose your right to publish you're occasional haiku. It would also do a lot for your sense of logic.

Howie on WNSH? Heck I could pick that up even at night. Then again I'm a mile away
from the Endicott campus where 1570's stick is! (I've been on that station, doing an all
Kinks show in the early 90s when they were above a hardware warehouse in Hamilton*, and then
doing fill ins for Doug Mascott's local music show from Endicott. How much I got paid
is just like that cereal: nut 'n', honey! but it was fun)

I assume then that you agree with my statement that Howie would agree to do nights on WNSH if the money was right, and screw the fan base. If even you no longer buy the 'fading signal and Sox preempts' BS rationale, there may be hope for just about anyone.

Regards,
TSB
