I'm glad that WOGL is playing 80s music. Brings back great memories for people that listened to 98 when it was top 40 from 81-87.

Don..
There's lots of full 6kw Class A's in NJ. WCZT, Villas. WTKU, Ocean City. WMGQ, New Brunswick (1220w @ 525ft...way above 100 meter/ 330ft max height allowed. It's Effective Radiated Power is 6kw) WJLK, Asbury Park (1300w @ 499ft = 6kw erp) WDHA, Dover NJ has a Construction Permit to double power to 6kw erp. WBBO 106.5 Bass River 1450w@628ft), WKMK 98.5 Ocean Acres...same thing.
WTKU-FM is 5800 watts, close enough. The extra 200 watts would buy about 2 extra blocks of city grade, if that.
i heard them play that , too ....i simply moved the tuner to 98.1 as i was wondering how much 80's material they were doing ... i got my answer all-too-soon .....doowopfan said:It's funny that WOGL should be brought up here, because I was listneing at work on Friday afternoon and heard them play them the theme song from Dirty Dancing. It was one of those "What the hell?" moments. That song is from 1987 and is much too recent for an oldies station billing themselves as "the greatest hits of the 60's and 70's". It's inconsistent with the format. They need to cut out the 80s crap, or we need a full-power oldies station playing the 50's and 60's cuts that WOGL has abandoned, with a program director who isn't brain dead. I'm sick of turning on WOGL and hearing more and more of this crap sneaking in!

Radio-Locator.com is sometimes misleading in it's description of Effective Radiated Power, as some listings are power out, not "effective" power. in FM, height is everything.
WOGL is a Class B. Standard Class B is 50kw at 500 feet. They have WOGL listed at 9600 watts ERP. Do you think 98.1 can cover Pottsville PA to Pleasantville NJ (150 miles) on less than 10kw? Well it can at 1,100 feet! But it's then 50kw ERP. It also doesn't take into account the number of bays in the antenna system. Theoretically at 100% efficiency, 10kw into 2 bays = 10 kw out, but 10kw into 4 bays = 20kw out. doubling bays doubles power out, and saves energy.
Harvey Holiday doesn't have the flexibility he once had on Street Corner Sunday either, as discussed previously on this forum.
WKMK is not a 6Kw class A. Visit the Commission's web site, do a search. Power listed is ERP, not raw input power. The Commission accounts for antenna gain, HAAT, etc. when it calculates ERP. WKMK's ERP is 2.95 Kw.

2.95 KW at 142 meters HAAT is about a 6 KW equivalent. But at second glance you are correct; it is not one of the full 6's, it is directional .
I think it used to have a higher ERP back when it was simulcasting WJLK, and after that, as B 98.5. Then, I remember a cutting back of power. Can anyone verify this?
