Has santos signed off forever?

Yes, MRBI had dealings with the former Air America, in several cities. It did not go well...
AA was a poorly run business, and was under-capitalized. Hiring stand-up
comedians as hosts for a daily talk show was also not a very smart move.
There is a big difference in getting yucks for performing a 10-minute set, and being informed
about public issues and conducting an intelligent and thoughtful talk show.

I think the reference was to Air America and the prominent role it gave to Al Franken, not to Santos at WWZN.

Fun fact, Al Franken was never a stand-up. He was a comedy writer, and was only around for 50% of the life of the network. The problems were far deeper than Senator Al... Hell, he was a bright spot.

The reference may be to Marc Maron, who is indeed a stand-up comic. Morning Sedition was heavily skit-based, and lasted less than two years.

Or they could be referring to Janeane Garaofalo who has appeared in several movies and TV shows but was and continues to be a stand up comedian.

Also Liz Winsted, who co-hosted a show with Rachel Maddow. Liz left the program (she was awful) and Rachel went on to do a solo. (She was great.)

Santos did have quite a few affiliates at one time. They fell to the wayside once the $$ ran out. Sad in a way. Really did himself in when he decided to run "best of"shows when he wasnt in town. A better choice would of been a guest fill-in host(a live show). Im sure advertisers were upset ponying up money and having reruns to accompany their ad. Sometimes you have to put your ego aside and put out the best product possible.

Santos was probably afraid of having anyone guest host since it's likely he would have suffered by comparison to almost ANYONE. Sorta like that running gag from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"....where "Ted Baxter" never went on vacation....for fear anyone replacing him would be better than he was. ;D

Anyhow...speaking of "affiliates"....you can also scratch off Providence market rimshotter 1320-WARL.

Santos had said they hoped to be back on WWZN at the end of the week last week. Fybush's column today says "Jeff Santos is once again looking for a new home for his progressive talk programming, which has now vanished from the schedule at WWZN (1510 Boston)". That sounds a bit more
like it won't come back there, though there is that delayed hour (6-7 am the next morning) on WRCA.
In advance of the debut of NBC Sports Radio it was said Santos would be on till just past the
Nov. election. And I guess he will be, but probably not on 1510.

Check didn't clear, or they won't sell him the time; not sure the reason. As for websites, the Revolution Boston one still prominently mentions 1510, still mentions shows that have been gone for months, and has the headline "Romney Picks Ryan!" That was in what, July? Then again the folks at 1510 have a site that still just says "This Is My Site" with nothing else. It probably takes a few
minutes to do a bare bones site with a logo, list of programs, etc. Maybe even sell some ads and
put them on there.

As for WEEI the program list goes through next Sunday but no mention is made as to the
splitting off of AM 850 on Friday. Maybe just as that happens they will do so, and the main logo will simply say "WEEI 93.7". Yes technically they still have the 850 but it won't be the same
programming.

Mark S/BRW tweets Santos is "in Ire. this week, so no new shows" and also radioinsight says
Ferrell on the Bench will be heard 10p-2a on CBS Sports Radio w/ several stations but
not 98.5 (from 1/2/13)

>>So much for BS that 98.5/Boston is dumping Fox overnights and making room for SportsBabe or anything else from CBS

Last I heard his show is still being ran on WVKO in Columbus (at least they still list him on their website from 3-6p) so someone appears to be still airing his show [even if it's outside of Boston]

I'll have to try and tune in and see if he is still on air "somewhere" since his days in Boston on 1510 appear over.

Edit: Apparently with his "disappearance" from Boston airwaves.. his affiliates are having issues

WVKO in Columbus OH had this on their Facebook page Monday: "Due to technical issues, The Jeff Santos Show will not be airing this afternoon"

Jeff airs 6-7 am on WRCA 1330 for now

I don't know what's more ridiculous:

--The 1510 Revolution Boston site (Santos' show etc.) still claiming all those shows they used to run

--The fact that NBC Sports Radio Boston's site still has the "This Is My Site" template. A month later.

How hard is it to update sites? Even bare bones, really.
Santos had mentioned on facebook that the old Rev. Boston FB page is "archival" and people should go to his J. Santos facebook show page instead. (Like WEEI's reg. sports talk, Santos' show now has a new
call in number.)
(From last Fri.: "The Revolution Radio Network Stream is back in business!" Also I guess they
did a show from WWDB 860 Philly the other day.)

Speaking of WWDB, earlier sunsets will mean his show will have to go off early...

>>WWDB, 860 AM, is a daytime-only radio station based in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania

WWDB and WRCA are both owned by Beasley. Connections at WWDB might have opened a door for Santos at WRCA. However, I think that the GMs of Beasley's leased-time stations get a pretty free rein as long as they meet the company's bottom-line requirements. Given that Stu Fink has been GM of WRCA--I think since before Beasley bought the station (from the guy who, I believe, now owns the 1320 station in Attleboro)--it seems like a safe bet that Fink has been keeping his bosses at Beasley pretty happy.
