Here comes the next HBG/York/Lancaster format change...

Don't Know! The guy posted.....and went away. My sources tell me that something WILL happen....on one of the stations....but what format and when is not known....and if the EAGLES are going on SOX....don't look for a change in format on that station. Cumulus flipped a Nashville property to CHR...when there were already at least two other CHR's in the market. EAGLES FOOTBALL would probably work on the existing Classic Hits format. For CHR, COUNTRY, or HOT AC....I don't think so. That leaves WARM wide open. Let's keep having fun with this!

Ok, here's some fun; Morning drive host Bobby Quinn will do a hard hitting political commentary show each morning, replacing the current music/traffic/news/weather line-up! ;)

Not gonna happen, & I wouldn't want that at all, but I do feel his talent is wasted on that show, or at least overlooked; I think he would be a great host on his own, or coupled with a funny sidekick to bounce topics off of, doing a comedy style show in the morning drive slot.

I know it would make my commute more stress free! Someone other than Kelly...sorry Kelly, but you'll have to sit this one out, lol.

Bobby has done many formats including COUNTRY and CHR. Could fit in just about anywhere......but I agree that he has alot to offer if a company were to properly use his talent. Getting back to the original thread...after talking to a programmer friend.....I've been doing some thinking...and a good argument can be made for NO FORMAT CHANGES. Once again....the recession. It's true...format's are changing in other markets such as DC. WJZW blew up True Oldies for Classic Rock....but they were ranked 20th...not in the top 5. To change formats....it costs money. New jingles and imaging must be bought. Once the format changes you loose revenue from existing loyal clients who may or may not go away. What's the better choice? Take a risk and loose money....or stay the course and "tweak" the existing format...which is less risk. My prediction....look for format tweaks this fall....not wholesale changes. Once the economy picks up....bigger risks will be taken.

Didn't Bobby Quinn already do a morning talk radio show a few years back -- on WHYL 960 -- THEE Talk Station? I agree with bossjock... Bobby could fit in just about anywhere.

Cumulus has this reputation of being all "hands on" when it comes to programming its radio stations. That being said, one has to wonder why there hasn't been intervention from corporate in regards to the WARM morning show.
The showing by the station in the Lancaster book a 2 12 plus should have gotten somebody's attention.

But perhaps the economy is the reason why.

Perhap's making Bobby D. the PD of WARM as well as SOX was their intervention. I wish him the best. Hopefully something will shake things up a bit. Anybody hear if MIX hired a PD yet? I personally like that station as it is. They advertised for an AC PD from what I hear.

Maybe yes. Maybe no. Ask the Clear Channel people about Bobby D's job in Cincinnati. It wasn't pretty. Hopefully, WARM comes out better on the other side.

All I know is that things are kind of stale right now. The landscape of the market...or should I say markets....needs a shake up. Economic realities are probably going to prevent this for some time. Too many stations...not enough formats....or should I say not enough formats that you can market or sell to the tough advertising community of late.

Oh I couldn't agree more with the staleness. Talk on a really good FM stick and Sports Talk on FM but perhaps a smaller stick would be options that could work.

The other option is CHR. Think about it...LAN is the only 50,000 watt CHR in the market. You have two versions of CHR on 92.1 and 99.3 in the 'burg..both weak signals.

And since 98YCR went away, York has not had a true CHR of its own.

Cumulus has been flipping stations to CHR. But can you sell it? That's the question. If you are smart how you daypart the music, I believe the answer is yes. Lots of excitement. Find a real ring leader to be the PD. Find someone who is into the "clubs" to be your MD. You don't think the Clear Channel "cookie cutters" wouldn't be impacted by a station like this? I think both LAN and the two in Harrisburg would be.

What's up is ANOTHER sad day for this market!...Another pair of DECENT LOCAL talent has been let go!..

Run with your idea of a format change!...What LOCAL TALENT will staff it?...

Do yourself a favor and VISIT Susquehanna Plaza..It is a "GHOST-TOWN" and VERY SAD from the Susquehanna "Heydays"

Cumulus is about to go under....and hate to say DESERVE to!..

Susquehanna Plaza doesn't hold a monopoly on "Ghost towns" in Central PA. I'm sure the same can be said for any of these "corporately" run clusters around the area.

Unfortunately, it's a time of adjustments. Susquehanna Broadcasting isn't coming back. It'll never be as it was again. Adjust to that fact and move on.

No sense moaning about it or be angry. Move on. It's over.

It appears many of the listeners have already moved on. I have no idea what's going to happen at this point. Hard to speculate...which is what I love to do. The fall book is about to kick in....and still no format change. Considering the fact that 101.3 has a full staff right now....it's not a good time for stagnation to set in. Moving a midday personality to AM drive and placing a partimer in midday doesn't sound competitive to me. If they continue with the WARM format as is they could pick up (god forbid) Delilah in 7- MID and put John Tesh in midday. That should put them back on the right track. LOL!

Probably won't happen. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this hasn't been discussed....Tesh daytime & Delilah at night. It would be the "cheap way to go."

I love reviving old threads. So, after almost a year, WARM 103 (which, a few years ago, probably played the best mix of music in the area)...is still a complete garbage pool. Vanilla ice cream is good, but man, don't you just LOVE those vanilla stations?? And how 'bout them 4-shares...they are so much better than the 8-shares or 10-shares that WARM used to have ten years ago!!! Thank goodness the "sissy" and "ancient" music is gone!!! What a cool station!!!

Hint: WLIF in Baltimore, less than 50 miles south down I-83, is extremely successful...and they pretty much play the same kind of music on weekdays during the daytime, so it can't be the music that is killing WARM, can it?? Unless.......how 'bout those weekends...WLIF plays ALL 60s and 70s ALL weekend??!! Man, their demographics must be high as the sky...those advertisers must be out of their minds not to dump the station. And how bout that "Nite Lite" show they have...don't they play some really "sissy" songs?? What a recipe for failure!!!!!

HINT

Well, here we go again.....I'll just say this....

Last time I checked, WLIF didn't have a station in its building that played 60s & 70s music FULL TIME. Granted WSOX doesn't play as much 60s anymore and is certainly based in the 70s. All 70s all day on Sunday in fact

The last thing Cumulus is going to do is take WARM back to things ten years ago

Do you expect them to take WSOX back ten years and revive Oldies 96.1. Yeah, bring back good old dead Buddy Holly tunes. Your listeners 60 plus will thank you. Your advertising clients will not.

Ten years ago, there wasn't a Peak.

Nor a very contemporary sounding A/C called Rose

Or a very interesting new station called Channel 1067. A possible wild card in all this.

The Spring #s will be out in a month.

Who knows? WARM may complete a "Hail Mary" and live for another day....
But, the market is very different to what it was ten years ago.

So HINT all you want.....

Ten years ago the main demo asked for by agencies was 18-34. Now it is going back to 25-54 like it was many years before it was 18-34. Things are changing, baby boomers are getting older.

Ten years ago many stations were still playing songs and commercials on carts. Cassette decks and reel-to-reel machines were common in studios. While it is nice to look back and think it was better then, ten years from now people will be talking about how good it was in 2010.

If you want to live in the past, go ahead. Just get out of my way as I move with the future.

It's probably been since the mid 80s that 18-34 was the prime demo agencies bought. It was the advent of primarily 25-54 buying that all but killed CHR in the early 90s. It wasn't until 1996's FCC act that authorization the multi-station ownership consolidation that still exists today that allowed ownership to program a station that didn't entirely live or die by 25-54.

There are many CHRs who do quite well 25-54.

Older Women are far more accepting of newer music than ever before. I define older as 35 plus in this discussion....

That bodes well for the format. And for even more advertising acceptance.

In previous threads, I have suggested WARM blow itself up and change it's identity and become a CHR, since all CHR music in York comes from out of town stations.

York has not had its own CHR station since 98YCR.
