Houston area radio notes (update thread)

Listened earlier and they said LA QUE BUENA. But then again after a few songs they said QBM again.
It's simply a way of saying that Que Buena has "buena música".

Weird. Radio Dabang 99.5 is broadcasting the thunderstorm. I heard what sounds like rain drops and thunder in the background. Also multiple stations are dead air and KHPT audio is cutting out

How much coverage should 96.1 FM (the one from U OF H have in downtown? I’m currently on Fannin ant Texas in Downtown Houston and I am picking up 96.1 from La nueva here almost very clear. Even on the RDS is showing La nueva

I think you mean 96.1 from Rice. It seems like it doesn’t get out as far as it should. I’m not sure if it’s because La Nueva is too strong or not. Downtown Houston should only be KTRU or maybe some interference from the Jersey Village translator but that one actually seems underpowered.

Oh yeah, sorry. I don’t really listen to 96.1. Also caught a pretty decent signal of 95.3 sounded like religious music in English.

HMM you might have had tropos. It could be KEPH-LP. Or maybe KZLD-LP is back on and english now? I doubt it's the Air1 translator from Conroe. They typically only make it down to 99.

Huge DX night tonight. I’m able to pick up here in Houston 97.3 from Louisiana.

99.5 playing country, RDS displaying ADVERTISE WITH TOWNSQUARE MEDIA.

101.5 I think they said WYNK

97.3 = KMDL/Lafayette, LA
99.5 = KNGT/Lake Charles, LA
101.5 = WYNK/Baton Rouge, LA
You may also want to check for:
99.9, KTDY/Lake Charles and 103.3 WRQQ/Baton Rouge... all those stations usually bounce in concurrently when the skip from the east is active.

Ihope radio 94.1 has horrible Echo. It has Echo and repeat echo.

Example

Hello llo llo hello llo llo llo so so so so so today today we went today we went

Just curious, what ever happened to KNLY 91.1? Is it still on air? Couldn’t find anything online about it. Website for The Boss is down, streaming on the Audacy app is down.

Missed the anniversary but KNLY 91.1 has not been on the air in over 2 years. Still don’t see anything filed

I was looking into that, I didn’t even see them active on social media either. I was picking up a weak signal, don’t remember if it was Vida Unida.

The entire situation with KNLY 91.1 was unfavorable from the outset. A Doctor from the Woodland area acquired KLNY from Hector Guevara/Centro Cristiano De Vida Eterna. The Doctor was unaware that he was acquiring a noncommercial radio station and overlooked performing due diligence on FCC regulations. For a period of time, they contested the matter in civil court, where Hector ultimately prevailed in the lawsuit. It seems the doctor faced adverse circumstances by not seeking advice from the appropriate legal counsel and instead depending on Hector's attorney, Dan Alpert. If I am not mistaken, over half a million dollars in cash and property was lost.

I did notice when they were on they had a lot of underwriting (not sure if proper) and after every one it said something like “is a proud sponsor of 91.1 the boss”. I also remember seeing or hearing them say they were the only radio station in The Woodlands despite having a very poor signal there.

It most likely was. They’re an extremely common tropos catch for me. I also really appreciate KTSU’s upper HD sideband being weaker allowing the frequency to stay open.
