I've seen ads, especially when I attempt clicking on a thread for the first time, hitting shift+enter to open it in a new window. I just go back to said thread and do it again, usually fixes said issue for a particular visit to this site. For the record, I'm using a PC, not a phone.I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ad on this site. Maybe because I only visit the site from my phone and I’m using DuckDuckGo as a browser.
I know what you mean 🤣I get different ads. 😅
Something tells me those ads are not targeted. At least, not hereI'll be happy to stop receiving those horrific ,'Hunter/Sniper' video game pop up ads that has images of animals being shot to death. If ads are targeted, then as an animal lover, I don't know how or why I'm being targeted. They are extremely graphic and make my stomach turn. They are unavoidable when I'm on this site.
Ads don’t have to be obnoxious though. The ads are what keep this website from being paywalled, so I guess we just have to tough out the occasional annoyance.
Dream on. Madison Avenue has discovered that there's no denominator too low for American advertising -- because, sadly, there's no denominator too low for American taste.Ads don’t have to be obnoxious though.
I think there was discussion awhile back to take donations or something. But probably won't happen until the board gets redone as our Chief Operator wants to move away from the Fora platform. The ads are what keep this website from being paywalled, so I guess we just have to tough out the occasional annoyance.
Maybe an ad free version of RD (with a small monthly fee) could be an option. I'll be the first to sign up.I think there was discussion awhile back to take donations or something. But probably won't happen until the board gets redone as our Chief Operator wants to move away from the Fora platform.
I never view sites on a phone - this old lady's eyeballs would ignite on fire like touching a hot dog to a MW broadcast tower!
Depends on what you mean by "inappropriate." The ads I'm seeing at the top and bottom of this page are for a Subaru dealership more than an hour away when there's another dealership less than 10 miles up the road. Geographically inappropriate.I think the issue is with Google ad formatting on the XenForo platform. The ads with the “coverup” issue are for legitimate and mostly familiar businesses; I have not seen anything sleazy or inappropriate.
Coming as I do from the newspaper business, I tend to sympathize with radio and internet outlets struggling not only to attract advertisers but to keep those ads from being ignored or blocked. That's why I never use ad blockers while on the internet and will often -- but not always -- sit through the long stopsets on radio. I've never interpreted "Information wants to be free" the way the anti-advertising, anti-paywall people do. It means that information ought to be free for a publisher (or station) to disseminate, not free of charge for the end user nor to be distributed free of advertising.it's funny how most of us are in or have been in commercial broadcasting, yet we don't care for ads. it just seems to me that website ads, especially popups and coverups are downright annoying. i never thought broadcast ads (until the dawn of the 8 minute stopset) were annoying. it's a different medium, sure.
