How Long Before Movin' Comes To Boston

well in new york they changed their oldies to jack, and they changed their rmix to moving, and changed their rock to hot talk. Parralells are there

But I heard that Oldies wasn't doing so well, and neither was WNEW when it was rock. I don't know what is going on with Mix now, but Movin is a trademarked name and is being managed by Allen Burns and Associates, who created the format.

Of course moving Steve Kingston from WXRK marked the death of that station as well.

Who says cbs would be the ones to put it on? someone brought up Mix and then someone said maybe they'll put it on ods, or wbcn? It is not a cbs format so they dont have a requirement to put it on anything. IF WBOS did not bill well despite its non existent ratings I would say they could be the most likely candidate.

Perhaps it is not officially a CBS format like Free FM, but they are the only conglomerate with Boston stations that has shown enough interest in the format to launch it in a market.

WBOS billed $9m, with a power ratio of 1.16; second to lowest in billing above WKLB. Oldies billed $17m with a ratio of 0.87, and WBMX billed $22.2m with a ratio of 1.61.

Greater Media is stubborn to change any of it's failing properties: look at other GM markets to see how long they retained formats like Jammin' Oldies on WEJM and WGRV, hot AC on WMWX, and everybody's favorite, AAA on WBOS. Even if GM did go with the Movin' format on one of their stations (most likely 92.9, seeing that the future of WKLB is secured for the time being), it would almost certainly be a poorly-produced clone much like the initial WMKK was to Jack FM.

please. gm is not stubborn, they're just incompetent and stupid radio people.
there's a difference. look how many times they've clowned around with wbos
and wror over the years. they've shifted frequencies, call letters, talent,
managers. killed smooth jazz because they didn't know how to sell it right. put up the
worst talk station in america. now killing off classical because they couldn't sell
it if their life depended on it. they're still in business here because of magic and
because that's the only thing that has worked for them here for 25 years.

KFRC in San Francisco and WCBS-FM in New York didn't get anything near the numbers as oldies stations in their respective markets as WODS gets here in Boston.

It seems a lot less likely that they will change WODS because it's doing quite well here, but I guess you never know.

Ever think all those moves were to kill off any stations that may compete with Majic?

Well lets see, the choices are Clear Channel: both Jam'n and Kiss are doing well. Greater Media: when's the last time that they flipped a station? Entercom: Now, perhaps they are a possibillity, however considering that they still have the Mike format and put WAAF on 97.7 and them already trying a similar format with Star is doubful.

That leaves Infinity with WBMX (a possibillity), WZLX (do not think that they will change that format.) Oldies (as already mentioned is doing well) and WBCN (which could use a ratings makeover.

uhg...

lets end this speculation...boston needs no outlet for LaBouche, Cristal Waters, Bucketheads, Real mcCoy, C&C Music Factory, Quad City DJ's, Black Box, and whole host of other corny bands you can hear on Jock Jamns or the old MTV dance cds they used to market.

Does anyone even know what WZOU was playing before it flipped, because essentially, that's gonna be the format....whack songs, by whack artists, for whack people.

As for BCN changing formats...won't happen, they'd go talk first.

Small FYI there: There is no such thing as "Infinity broadcastng." WBMX, WZLX, WODS and WBCN are all owned by a company called "CBS Corp."

They just keeping on changing their name!

Now, I happen to disagree with your use of the term "whack people!" I really enjoyed WZOU when they were around. "Movin" is a hybrid of 80's, 90's and today. Zou wasn't playing much 80's at all.

Now here is an idea, Entercom could put WAAF on 93.7 and make 97.7 a Movin station.

My idea would have 93.7 be the current WAAF 97.7 be a pop station and 107.3 be the rhythum station.

They could call it the three flavors of WAAF Rock, pop, and soul. Three different music styles one station.

Hill-man could do bits on all three morning shows.

September 1999, when WSJZ 96.9 dropped smooth jazz for talk.

Supposedly that was the main factor for changing WSJZ as opposed to changing WBOS.

I thought it was because WBOS had a ratings spike and at the last minute they nuked WSJZ instead.

Yes, but there had to be more to the story. The ratings were something like WSJZ 1.8 WBOS 1.9.

It was a bit higher than that, plus the Boston Herald printed the ratings for all the demographics that quarter. WSJZ was the only Greater Media station not in the top 10 in any of the demos.

It was still a very sudden decision to swith Smooth Jazz over WBOS none the less.

it's magic, not majic. well, why did they keep smooth jazz in the market when the bought oasis 99.5?? they tried to program sjz for two years before pulling the plug. it had nothing to do with magic's numbers. they just didn't know how to market, sell and program the format here. it was a disaster starting with the 7-up guy doing the imaging and ending with
eclectic playlist that no one really cared for.
