Howard Stern vs. Rush Limbaugh!

Howard is for shock. Rush is for critical thinkers.

Rush... critical thinkers. In the same sentence. Now that is funny. Thanks for the laugh.

I found it kind of scary myself!

Okay come close, Paul Harvey did a lot for stations. He did it in a classy way too.

I'm so old I used to listen to Chcuk Schaden on WLTD 1590 Evanston LONG before he was on WNIB.
Always thought I'd make it to Metro Golden memories, but never did.

I wish I had airchecks of Warren Frieburg so you could hear just how mean spirited he was.
Perhaps it's best that such vitriol rest in peace.
The last I heard him was one time I was in Houston, maybe about 2001...?
I was dxing in a downtown hotel with a homebuilt AM superhet, and heard that unmistakable BIG, ( Warren was rather huge)
voice talking about John Denver, and how he had died in an ultralight (airplane) and that John was unaware that he had died
and as far as he knew (John denver, that is, ) that he was still flying an ultralight airplane, somewhere.

I swear I'm not making this up.

Critical Thinkers? Rush is a panderer. He succeeds by arousing and titillating -- just not sexually (thank God!). He knows how to get listeners worked up by hitting their hot buttons. Howard, Rush, net porn...they're all just different types of arousal for people with different (or sometimes the same) hot buttons.

I see this board is getting selective about TIO's.

I put hem both in the same catagory of testosterone radio. Both of them tried to 'entertain' with aggressive behavior that was supposed to target immature men or aggressive and angry men. They have produced tons of imitators, some maybe even more so like Imus, Michael Savage, and BTLS. Maybe Stern has matured, but I don't have Sirius/XM so I don't know. As for Rush, most of my listening has just been in clips on other shows(Stewart/Colbert) or from other peoples radios. I did hear him call John McCain a communist (coming out of a car at the next gas pump) and I wonder who this was designed to entertain.

Somebody call the police, someone is holding Jeff in Sarasota's family hostage. :D

I never know what to expect when I check out the NYC part of the board.

Here is a Youtube clip of him critiquing the Steve Dahl show, "Its Too Early." Having never seen him before, I can see where Rush could be accused of copying his style.

Trivia: Stern and Limbaugh share the same birth date. I share their birth date as well, though I've only made a tiny footprint in radio.

Of course, Kirstie Alley also shares the same birth date. Eeeewww.

So I stumbled on this forum trying to figure out how to record the streaming radio that WABC puts out and people are ripping Rush. Really? He has the #1 radio show in America and he is spot on for everything. I can't stand Hannity, Levine is just crazy (stop yelling!) and Beck is just weird (stop crying on TV man!). However, I could sit and listen to Rush all day. He digests all the sound bites of the day and gives his take. You wouldn't the REAL story on CNN, NBC, CBS, etc.

He goes a bit overboard (Emom Hoover Obama) just to poke the libs. I think it's funny.

Just continue to post "LOL" without any explanation why you don't like Rush.

If they were on at the same time and there was dead air on a third station, I'd take the dead air.

I don't have a problem with people listening purely for entertainment, but there's a scary trend of people actually taking what he says seriously and forming their opinions around it instead of actually *ahem* critically thinking. He's a demagogue, and demagogues usually find huge success in times of economic turmoil and uncertainty (see Father Coughlin) by preying on people's fears. It works great for them, but not for the country as a whole.

He's reading and commenting on a bunch of articles from the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Yeah, great entertainment or is it education? You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know this country is going in the wrong direction. I actually read most of the 16 pages of the article Education of a President in the NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/17/magazine/17obama-t.html) that was talked about on Rush's show for my self and his take was SPOT ON.

Why are all the liberal radio stations filing bankruptcy? Air America? Oh right, they weren't entertaining enough.

10/12/10

Fox News is much more "entertaining" according to this chart:

P2+ Prime Time
FNC – 3,231,000 viewers
CNN – 1,951,000 viewers
MSNBC –1,018,000 viewers
CNBC – 178,000 viewers
HLN – 502,000 viewers

I agree. Dead air is better than hot air.

Yeah, I like sticking my head in the sand too. Just put down the newspaper, turn off the TV and radio and go watch Jackass 3D at the theaters. On the way home, swing by Blockbuster and pick up Idiocracy.

Even if one feels that the country is headed in the wrong direction and that Obama is the worst President in history, that does not mean the same person can't find Limbaugh off-base or even repulsive.  In fact, that's the kind of simpleminded, false "logic" Limbaugh thrives on, and it's scary how many people fall for it.  Many of these are the same people that like -- maybe even need -- to be spoon-fed by Fox News, since it's so hard for them to pull together their own thoughts.  Chilling.

So who or what do you listen to for your news?
