I think somebody here at one point was involved with a pre-KMCQ move-in situation where 104.9 was to move to 104.5 (I think) as a Black Diamond licensed station. The folks wanting to move the station from The Dalles won out, though.
At best that station may be able to move closer a bit north of their location (by about 10 miles...think around Graham and Yelm area) as a class A. However, there are several issues with that. Primarily their current Eatonville mountaintop location gives them excellent coverage for a C3 station...allowing them to at least have a signal in places like north Seattle, Bothell, etc. some 60 air miles away! A class A only 100m up in the valley would basically cover Tacoma the same, slightly improve their Olympia coverage, and shaft everybody to the north...doubtful you'd get a hint of them past downtown Seattle!
Anyway folks, put your smoking materials down, this is strictly a pipe dream. Ain't no way no how 104.9 is moving any time in our generation! It's really kinda stuck (boxed in, really) where it is...even if copious amounts of Vasoline and a shoe horn were applied to it!
I do wonder what the future holds for a rimshot on the far end of the market like 104.9? They haven't really done much ratings-wise since the Funkey Monkey days, so perhaps a bit of an approachable, familiar 'niche' format like KUBE @ 104.9 can get some listeners in South Sound.
