Here it is:Brian Hart said:Weird. I can't find a statement on www.cbsradio.com other than the one from two days ago about the suspension. And Imus is still all over www.wfan.com. You would think they would have had the presence of mind to get coordinated before announcing the firing.
CBS to Cease Broadcasting Imus in the Morning
CBS today announced its decision to cease broadcasting the Imus in the
Morning radio program, effective immediately, on a permanent basis
NEW YORK, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- "From the outset, I believe all of
us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on
our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the
NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent,"
said CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, in
announcing the decision. "Those who have spoken with us the last few days
represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society -- all races,
economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned
groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has
on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their
way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our
minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and
personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS
Corporation and our many other constituencies."
Imus in the Morning was carried on 61 stations across the United States
and distributed over the Westwood One radio network. The cancellation of
the program comes after statements Mr. Imus made about the young women who
comprised the Rutgers University Women's Basketball team, which reached the
finals of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship this spring.
Moonves concluded: "I want to thank all those who came to see us to
express their views. We are now presented with a significant opportunity to
expand on our record on issues of diversity, race and gender. We intend to
seize that opportunity as we move forward together."

Get your head out of the sand ! AL Sharpton and Jesse Jackson been going after Gangsta Rap Music !traficstud said:If CBS is going to fire Imus for his comments (which I do agree were bad), then they must fire the programmers of MTV for allowing all of these videos and programs that denegrate women- especially black women. But CBS won't have the guts to do it.
This was wrong by CBS. Suspension was fine. Making drastic changes to the show- especially letting Bernard go, who is the instigator of most of the over-the-line antics-, fine. But they should not fall to the pressures of black leaders- whom in my opinion are NOT pillars of the black community- to do this. Let's see Sharpton and Jackson go after the artists and the programmers within the black community that allow horribles things to be said about women and whites.
Let's stop the double standard garbage.
There is a lot of "cleaning up" to be done in ALL of broadcasting. Temporarily, this will put a CHILL into many broadcast organizations. But I don't see it long term UNLESS people like Sharpton and Jackson can follow through. They say they will so let's see. It will be a good thing if they do. I want the FILTH cleaned up.traficstud said:If CBS is going to fire Imus for his comments (which I do agree were bad), then they must fire the programmers of MTV for allowing all of these videos and programs that denegrate women- especially black women.
