Imus Done!! CBS fires him
Yes it does matter. It's TOTALLY relevent. This deal needs FCC and Anti-Trust approval. Neither company will be able to sign him until their merger is declared dead by the feds (which I expect it to be). They can't hire a political hot potato like Imus now as the deal is being fought by many already. Don't give those fighting the deal another reason to kill it.
I wasn't refering to merger qualifications...just the fact that satellite radio is structured differently and doesn't involve advertisers means a "boycott" would not work. Whether master-extortionist Sharpton would be able to exert pressure against the merger is another factor. In any case, as an XM subsciber, I hope the merger fails, since the combo service(especially with the likelihood of it being run by the Sirius execs) will definitely lead to a lower quality of programming(as is always the case when there's no competition).

I would like to introduce Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, Hillary Clinton, Joseph Lieberman, Jack Thompson, and of course ol' Dubya, to a couple of things they apparently have never heard of. The first thing is called an "Off" button/switch. It comes in handy if someone is taking advantage of the free speech amendment and you disagree with something they are saying. The second, depending on the piece of equipment in question, is either called a "Tuning" button or knob, Up and Down or + and - buttons, a "Next" or "Fast Forward" button, etc. If you still want to be entertained, despite taking the risk of seeing or listening to something that offends you, all of these can be used to change the channel or station if there's something you don't like. Who gave all of you morons the right to dictate what should and shouldn't be allowed on TV, radio, video games, etc.? Quit being a bunch of religious zealots and forcing your agendas on the masses. Do what anyone else does if they see something that upsets them and stop being so drunk with power.

SoulCrusher, as insane as he is on the NJ boards, brings up a very valid point. The fact that Sharpton and Jackson got away with this immediately gives creeps like Bozell and Jack Thompson a HUGE foothold upwards.

For those of you that are unfamiliar, Jack Thompson has been leading a one-man crusade against the videogame industry. His main targets has been games like Grand Theft Auto (which the latest version gave you the POV of a African-American gang member).

I agree 100%. But here is where the problem exists. To most individuals, the most obvious of solutions appears to be the most complicated thing for them to do regardless of how much physical, psychological, or emotional discomfort it might create. These are the type of people that would go to a seminar taught by Friedrich Nietzsche and sit for hours to hear him proclaim that "God is Dead" instead of walking out of the room. Sometimes the easiest thing for a person to do is the last thing the person actually does.

With the Virginia Tech mass shooting story today, the Imus story will now fade into the sunset...

He doesn't deserve to have airtime on any radio station

The only person who does NOT deserve airtime is a person who cannot produce RATINGS.
Otherwise, we might as well change the name of our country to "The Soviet Union"

Since when does anyone besides the marketplace (I.E. The listeners who produce revenues) deserve to say who can or cannot be on the air.

Sure, they may be the "public Airwaves", but the marketplace sure as heck demands millions of dollars for a "public" license.
