Wow whhat a completely clueless thread. Why doesnt he say "yeah i said it so what"?
Imus has made a career out of cutting remarks about people and I've never heard him apologize and beg forgiveness.
Like I said, no guts.

For one, all the players and staff at Rutgers care. Why did IMUS GO TO SHARPTON? He didn't have to. This isn't a story about Sharpton, it's about IMUS and his string of racial remarks that is going to end his career as he knows it today. FIRE HIM.TheStoker said:Interesting how free speech only works in one direction-Remember Sharpton's comments in the past about "cracker rednecks"? Not much out of that. Always something for our American public, and the media to get it's shorts in a knot over. Something new every week. Who gives a s--t?
You really don't have a clue what is going on do you? You really don't have a clue how big this is.RadioStarOne said:If only some posters would have the same passion for ending the conflict in Iraq. Mostb1 you have entirely too much time on your hands! Get over it already! Imus will stay and stay til he retires on his own terms. You will never do as much for charity as he has. Never in your lifetime.

Imus is a well paid professional. He should know better. He took a chance, and now he has to pay. This isn't the first time for him. How about when he called Gwen Ifill of PBS a maid covering the White House?
Sharpton and Jackson did not make the rules. Its called common decency!
Anybody who defends him is also a bigot.

Waaaah! He called me a bad name!
Just how thin-skinned is everyone? If it was a stupid comment, it was a stupid comment...not a national scandal.

Yes it is a national scandal. It has been "allowed" in our entertainment industry for way too long for one reason "profit". If this is the beginning of a real national debate on why so much racism and hateful comments are part of the airwaves, both from so-called entertainers and from music, so be it. That might be the only good thing to come out of all of this.
In the meantime, Imus MUST RESIGN or BE FIRED. There is no other choice.
Kevin said:Why should Imus be fired? Why is this latest remark so outrageous that he MUST get fired over it? Imus was just being Imus. Do I support his actions and choice of words? No, but he shouldn't be fired. Whatever happend to free speech?
Personally I think the two week suspension is ridiculous enough, but getting fired? Please.

You, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson feed off of negative situations like this. It's like you guys have nothing better to do. But what about all the good things Imus has done?
And did you know he was one of the first to bring up how black people in New Orleans were being ignored and segregated against after Hurricane Katrina? He was one of the first people to bring up this topic. He came to their defense.
Were Imus' comments appropriate? No. But should he be fired over it? No.
It's simply a matter of opinion.
radiosaur said:jimbo said:Why doesn't Don Imus stand behind his remarks and show some balls? Something like, "yes, I said nappy headed hos and so what?" Imus' must have his testicles in a lockbox for him to go begging forgiveness from Al Sharpton.
Finally, common sense!
If Imus had said something along those lines and let it go at that, he ultimately wouldn't have lost his advertisers or gig...but he has to do the ridiculous PC "I'm sorry" tour. The only thing left now is the obiligatory trip to rehab.
Al Sharpton was one of the Leaders who got the word N banned from New York ( Target Rap Artist ) . AL Sharton does attack Black People , it just dont get much press time .Ferreri said:The Imus comment was nasty, however, Mr. Sharpton and company should listen to rap material. The "songs" and videos portray women in a very bad manner. The brilliant Dave Chappelle makes Imus' comment appear tame in some of his comedy. Do you really feel there would have been such an uproar had Imus made a quip about Italians, Greeks, or any other group? Let's stop sending people to "Jimmy The Greek hell" at the advice of Sharpton or Jackson. Those gentleman need to start at home with the lifestyle of many of their race and the "music" that young people are listening to. Clean up your own backyard first.

No, it isn't a matter of "opinion". It's a matter of decency. It's a matter of profits over racism.
Many people have done wonderful things. But then they screw up. Imus may have "given" back to the community many times but he has to go for what he has done now. The two do not mean anything together. This just isn't a one-time racist remark.
Imus or the broadcasters can't "pay" to get out of this one. It would relegate him and anyone who appears on his show from now on to supporters of racism. He has to be fired or resign and start over like so many others who have made a HUGE wrong to society.
I'm sorry that you just don't have a clue.
Read AL ROKER'S comments about WHY IMUS MUST GO. Maybe that will help http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/04/10/116906.aspx
